The infrastructure includes physical resources including at least one computer server. The storage stores state information indicative of a current state of the infrastructure and configuration information of the infrastructure. The configuration information includes composed immutable content incorporating automation tasks and instructions to effectuate state changes of the infrastructure. The configuration platform includes a network interface and a configuration processor that configures the infrastructure by generating and executing a workflow that includes a sequence of operations to effectuate a change of state of the infrastructure. The composed immutable content may include catalog units of subcomponents each including one or more declarative instructions. Catalog units or subcomponents may be grouped into version sets managed by a version set manager.

Commands may be forwarded directly or indirectly via one or more intermediary endpoints. An owner endpoint receives a command, updates its local state, and sends one or more events to one or more proxy endpoints to update corresponding mirrored states. A restricted proxy endpoint may store a partial mirrored state. The federation may support bidirectional sharing, synchronization, and resource data sharing.

A method, system, apparatus, and computer-readable medium to enable a set of security device interfaces within a broadcast domain to identify and mitigate attacks. For each address of a device communicating within the broadcast domain, a responsible interface is determined by a zero hop ownership determination algorithm. The algorithm operates by counting a respective number of replies observed by each of multiple interfaces. Each reply is made in response to a respective request for one address. A responsible interface is assigned to the one address using the respective number of replies observed by each respective interface. The algorithm approximates the security device interface physically closest to the address in question without querying the switches themselves and without requiring the security device interface to be in-line on the network.

Zero hop algorithm for network threat identification and mitigation

A method and apparatus in a distributed data processing system for selecting configuration information for a client in the distributed data processing system. A request is received at a server from the client for configuration information. A subnet for the client is identified using the configuration information. A set of identification tokens is identified from the request. A plurality of containers in a hierarchical structure is traversed using the subnet and identification tokens to identify selected containers within the plurality of containers matching the subnet and the identification tokens. The identified containers are selected in an order the preserves preference as determined by their arrangement in the hierarchical structure and by the data that each contains. Configuration information is obtained from selected containers within the plurality of containers to form selected configuration information. The selected configuration information is sent to the client.

Method and apparatus for identifying clients using incoming option data

Network input processing is distributed to multiple CPUs on multiprocessor systems to improve network throughput and take advantage of MP scalability. Packets are received by the network adapter and are distributed to N receive buffer pools set up by the device driver, based on N CPUs being available for input processing of packets. Each receive buffer pool has an associated CPU. Packets are direct memory accessed to one of the N receive buffer pools by using a hashing function, which is based on the source MAC address, source IP address, or the packet's source and destination TCP port numbers, or all or a combination of the foregoing. The hashing mechanism ensures that the sequence of packets within a given communication session will be preserved. Distribution is effected by the network adapter, which sends an interrupt to the CPU corresponding to the receive buffer pool, subsequent to the packet being DMAed into the buffer pool. This optimizes the efficiency of the MP system by eliminating any reliance on the scheduler and increasing the bandwidth between the device driver and the network adapter, while maintaining proper packet sequences. Parallelism is thereby increased on network I/O processing, eliminating CPU bottleneck for high speed network I/Os and, thus, improving network performance.
