A control system monitors the angle of each ranging arm, with respect to the mainframe of the machine. While the machine is in a defined zone along the face, if the angle of the arm is detected to be lower than a parameter defined set-point called the undercut limit, the control system does not allow the arm to be lowered further. When entering the run of face from either gate end, if either of the ranging arms are below the set point, the horizontal movement of the shearer is stopped, and an alarm message is generated, and a warning light begins to flash, alerting the operator that he must raise the arm before horizontal movement of the shearer can be enabled.

Method for steering a mining machine cutter

The invention provides a bolting installation apparatus comprising a base having a pair of parallel cylindrical rods held between two end plates; an intermediate carriage slidably mounted on said rods; a drilling unit carriage having at least one first rod and at least one second rod spaced apart from said first rod; a drilling unit slidably mounted on said second rod and said intermediate carriage slidably receiving said first rod of said drilling unit carriage; at least one moving means to move each of said base, said intermediate carriage and said drilling unit carriage relative to each other.

Bolting rigs

A mining machine that has a chassis that defines an operator area thereon and has a mining assembly attached thereto. A vertically extending shield assembly is supported on the chassis to prevent material that is dislodged during the mining process from inadvertently entering the operator area. The shield assembly may be selectively vertically extendable and may be equipped with a ventilation duct assembly to withdraw dust and gases away from the operator area. The mining machine may be equipped with a mining assembly that extends the entire width of the chassis and that can be advanced forwardly of the chassis and swung down across the seam face during mining. The present invention may also be equipped with a quick disconnect assembly for detachably mounting the mining assembly or other mining implement to the mining machine.
