A system for controlling an impedance matching circuitry can include an antenna, a receiving or transmitting circuitry, an impedance matching circuitry, a circuitry, and a controller. The impedance matching circuitry can be coupled between the antenna and the receiving or transmitting circuitry. The circuitry can be configured to set a value of an impedance of the impedance matching circuitry. The controller can be configured to determine, based on a state of an electronic device, that the electronic device is configured to perform one or more functions with one or more of a satellite radio navigation signal at a first or a second frequency, a wireless local area network signal at a third or a fourth frequency, or a personal area network signal at a fifth or a sixth frequency. The controller can be configured to control, in response to a determination of the state of the electronic device, the circuitry.

Controlling impedance matching circuitry

The present disclosure describes apparatuses and methods of performance-based antenna selection for user devices. In some aspects, a user device includes a transceiver having a first receiver, as well as second and third receivers. The transceiver is coupled to a first antenna to enable communication via the first antenna and the second receiver is coupled to the second antenna to enable reception via the second antenna. The third receiver is coupled to a third antenna to enable monitoring of performance of the third antenna. Based on a comparison of respective performance of the first antenna and the third antenna, the first antenna or third antenna is coupled the transceiver to enable subsequent communication. By monitoring and comparing respective performance of the antennas before antenna switching is implemented, a better-performing antenna of the two antennas can be selected for coupling to the transceiver without impacting communication performance.

Performance-based antenna selection for user devices

A method for detecting, at a controller of an electronic device, when an antenna switch condition associated with at least one of a first antenna and a second antenna occurs, and for responding to the antenna switch condition. The electronic device is configured with the first antenna assigned to a primary antenna path and the second antenna assigned to a secondary antenna path. In response to detecting that the antenna switch condition has occurred, a first antenna switch operation is triggered. The switch operation assigns the first antenna to the secondary antenna path and the second antenna to the primary antenna path. The method further includes performing a transmission close loop tuning on the second antenna and detecting completion of the transmission close loop tuning on the second antenna. In response to detecting completion of the transmission close loop tuning, a second antenna switch operation is executed.

The single port wide band impedance matching circuit includes a single signal port adapted for receiving a wide band signal. The single port wide band impedance matching circuit further includes an impedance matching circuit including a narrow band harmonic bypass. Still further, the single port wide band impedance matching circuit includes an antenna port coupled to the single signal port via the impedance matching circuit.

A method and system for detecting whether the position of a user's hand gripping a mobile communication device chassis affects an external antenna is provided. A sectioned metal band about a periphery of a mobile communication device has a radiating antenna in at least one metal section. The radiating antenna section is bounded on both sides by electrically floating metal sections. Each of the electrically floating metal sections is bounded on the side distal from the antenna section by a ground metal section. Each metal section separated from an adjacent metal section by an insulating gap. Embodiments measure a differential capacitance between the antenna section and the floating metal section and measure a single and capacitance between the floating metal section and the grounded section to determine whether a user's hand is bridging one or more of the insulating gaps.

A method, communication device, and computer program product mitigate Specific Absorption Rating (SAR) exposure to a user proximate to a communication device. The method includes an on-device measurement receiver of a communication device detecting a first signal level corresponding to power delivered to a first antenna. The method includes a controller determining a first return loss value based on a first transmit power setting and the first signal level. The method includes the controller determining whether the first return loss value differs from a baseline value by a threshold amount. In response to the controller determining that the first return loss value differs by the threshold amount, the controller causes the communication device to reduce the power delivered to the first antenna.

The method includes the controller determining whether both the first value and the second value differ from respective baseline values by respective Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) threshold amounts. In response to the controller determining that both the first and second values differ by the respective SAR threshold amounts, the controller adjusts the power delivered to the first antenna.

A method and system configures a wireless communication device to support various radio frequency test modes. A controller determines whether an RF test cable is connected between test equipment and a test connector while a corresponding transceiver(s) is operating. In response to determining that the RF test cable is connected between test equipment and the test connector while the corresponding transceiver is operating, the controller provides an antenna tuner configuration(s) corresponding to the operating transceivers to support a test mode which, for example, can include any of a carrier aggregation (CA) test mode and a diversity transmission test mode. However, if the RF test cable is not connected between test equipment and the test connector while the corresponding transceiver(s) is operating, the controller determines an antenna tuner configuration corresponding to a normal/non-test device communication mode.
