A first user () requests a service provider () to create () a record of a transaction. The service provider () creates () a digital receipt (), which includes a description () of the transaction understandable by humans, tamper-proof evidence () of the transaction, and a verification prompt (). A second user () who desires to verify the transaction displays () the digital receipt () and activates () the verification prompt (). Upon activation, the tamper-proof evidence () is verified without requiring further human interaction to identify the tamper-proof evidence.

Digital receipt for a transaction

A buyer () wishes to use a payment instrument as part of an online commerce transaction with a seller () and it is desired to authenticate that the buyer () has authority to use the payment instrument. A separate authentication service () determines whether the buyer () has access to certain secret information without revealing the secret information to the seller (). Access to the secret information would verify that the buyer () has authority to use the payment instrument. The authentication service () informs the seller () whether the buyer () is authorized to use the payment instrument.
