Systems and methods are provided for an air purifier with over pressurization relief, including the following components. A room air inlet is configured to fluidly receive air from a room. A supply duct inlet is configured to fluidly receive air from a forced air system. An air filter and or air purification means is configured to filter/purify air. An outlet is configured to expel filtered/treated air into the room. A bypass damper system has at least one air filtering mode position and a bypass mode position. A pressure control mechanism is configured to automatically allow the bypass damper system to move from at least one air filtering mode position to a bypass mode position when the air received from the supply duct inlet exceeds a bypass threshold. The bypass mode position guides air from the supply duct inlet into the room without requiring passage through the filter and the outlet.

Room air purifier with pressurization relief

A room air purifier is provided is provided that has a housing that defines a floor supply duct inlet, a room air inlet, and an outlet. An air mixing chamber within the housing is in direct communication with said room air inlet and said floor supply duct inlet. A filter is disposed in the housing. A fan is disposed in said housing between the outlet of the filter and the outlet side of the filter. An air channel panel is disposed in a filter inlet area between the air mixing chamber and the filter. Various sensors may be deployed to control temperature, and to prevent unpurified air from exiting the room air purifier. Optionally, an additional wall supply inlet may be placed in fluid communication with the air mixing chamber to provide a second extra-room source of air.

Room air purifier

The invention is a damper that closes off supply duct air when the unit is off to prevent air from exiting through the outlet, and opens when the unit is on to allow room air and/or supply duct air to exit through an outlet. The damper may be either motorized or mechanically biased.

Methods and related systems for individually sensing airflow in the breathing orifices of a patient, and preferentially delivering therapeutic gas to those breathing orifices based on the amount of airflow sensed.

Method and system of sensing airflow and delivering therapeutic gas to a patient

A flow meter has a body, an inlet operatively connected to a source of gas, and an outlet. A valve for opening and closing the outlet is provided which includes a valve seat, a valve shaft movable axially relative to the valve seat and a valve member on the valve shaft. The valve member movable by axial translation of the valve shaft between a first position in which the valve member engages the valve seat to close the outlet and a second position in which the valve member is spaced from the valve seat to allow gas to pass through said outlet. The flow meter further includes a sensor which senses the position of said valve member relative to said valve seat and generates a signal indicative of said position. In one embodiment, the sensor comprises an infrared light emitter and an infrared photo-detector positioned on opposite sides of the valve member, which is preferably conical. Depending on the axial position of the valve member, the amount of light which reaches the photodetector changes. In another embodiment, the valve shaft is operable connected to a potentiometer which is responsive to the rotational position of the valve shaft, and hence the axial position of the valve member. In a third embodiment, a magnet is placed about the valve shaft, and a magnetic field detector is placed within the magnets magnetic field. The sensor is responsive to the position of the magnet and hence the position of the valve member.

Therapeutic gas flow meter and monitor

A therapeutic gas delivery device includes a monitor having an inlet and an outlet, a source of therapeutic gas in fluid communication with the monitor inlet, and a gas delivery tube in fluid communication with the monitor outlet. The monitor includes a control valve having a normally open port, a normally closed port, and a common port. The common port is connected to the monitor outlet over a gas line and the normally open port and normally closed port are connected to the monitor inlet and atmosphere. The valve is switchable between a first position wherein the therapeutic gas passes through the monitor and a second position wherein atmospheric air or gas passes through the monitor. A flow sensor is placed in the gas line to measure the flow of gas through the second line and produces a signal indicative of the flow of gas through the gas line. A sensor by-pass tube extends around the flow sensor to allow a predetermined portion of the gas to by-pass the flow sensor. A computer is operatively connected to the flow sensor. The computer may be programmed to control the switching of the control valve in response to signals received from the flow sensor.

Therapeutic gas flow monitoring system

An apparatus and method for controlling the output of an oxygen concentrator wherein an oxygen concentrator indicator is comprised of an oxygen sensor monitor and circuit board which receives a gas sample from the concentrator, the oxygen concentrator indicator circuit board converts the concentration of oxygen to a DC voltage range from 0 to 1 volt corresponding to 0% to 100% oxygen. A plurality of set-point amplifiers accept the voltage and feed the voltage to a logic block where the voltage is analyzed to insure that only one of a plurality of solid state relays or switches is energized at a time. A plurality of taps on an AC motor winding are selectively energized by the solid state relays to drive the oxygen concentrator at a pre-determined rate in response to the concentration of oxygen generated by the concentrator. In addition, where other types of motors are employed, such as a linear motor, similar type controls may be provided for regulating the actuation of the linear motor for generating reciprocal motion for operations of the oxygen concentrator.

Apparatus and method for controlling output of an oxygen concentrator

Filter

A pre-filter for an oxygen concentrator having enhanced filtering area. The pre-filter is positioned so that air entering the concentrator's air compressor is filtered to removed particulate contaminants. The pre-filter has an impermeable housing consisting of four walls in a rectangular configuration. There is, within the housing, a first filter pledget of porous filter material and second filter pledget of porous filter material with an air space in-between the pledgets. Each pledget has an exposed filtering surface and a material thickness of porous filter material. The opening of a conduit tube that is in fluid communication with the air compressor is positioned in the air space between the filter pledgets. Air entering the conduit tube passes through one of the exposed filtering surfaces and one material thickness of porous filter material.

An apparatus for monitoring and controlling the flow of a therapeutic gas to a patient. The apparatus includes a gas source, a flow management module and an electronics module. The flow management module contains a valve assembly and a sensor. The valve assembly contains a first valve to control the inflow of the therapeutic gas. The second valve controls the inflow of ambient air. When the valve assembly is deenergized the first valve is open allowing the flow of gas through the apparatus. The second valve is closed. When the valve assembly is energized, the first valve is closed stopping the flow of gas and the second valve is open allowing the inflow of ambient air. The sensor senses changes in the flow of the gas or ambient air and transmits a signal to the electronics module. The electronics module can be preprogrammed to control the valve assembly, determine respiratory rate, control the flow of therapeutic gas, store or transmit data in response to signals sent by the sensor.

Monitoring system for delivery of therapeutic gas

An ultasonic gas measuring device including a housing, walls for the housing, the walls having a gas inlet and a gas outlet provided therethrough, ultrasonic detecting means provided within the housing, the ultrasonic means having a transmitter, operatively associated with one wall of the housing, and a receiver, operatively mounted on another wall of the housing, and arranged at spaced locations within the housing, the housing incorporating gas processing device, electronic circuitry associated with the gas processing device and functioning to detect and generate a signal in cooperation with the ultrasonic detecting means representative of the concentration of the gas passing through the housing, a display operatively associated with the electronic means for displaying data relative to the concentration of gas passing through the measuring device, timer means electrically connected to the electronic means and the display means for first detecting for a short period of time the gas being measured, and then displaying upon the display means data relative to the measured gas for a longer period of time, and adaptor means connecting with the gas concentrating device, and its flow line, for tapping a small quantity of gas for diverting to the measuring device for processing, and then returning said gas to the adaptor and the main gaseous flow line.

Cabinet for an oxygen concentrator

A visual communicator for a rear window of a vehicle. The communicator is semi-transparent and adapted to be disposed in the rear window of the vehicle for viewing from outside of the vehicle. The degree of transparency is such as to accommodate normal use of an inside rearview mirror of the vehicle by a driver of the vehicle. The communicator also includes a message display unit including a plurality of light emitting diodes comprising in a matrix arrangement and disposed in a limited discrete portion of the rear window. The light emitting diodes are selectively energizable to emit light in the form of a message. The communicator further includes a message control unit operationally interconnected to the light emitting diodes for selectively energizing the light emitting diodes. The message control unit is programmed to energize the light emitting diodes in any one of a plurality of preselected patterns. With this arrangement, the preselected patterns form messages for viewing from outside of the vehicle upon selective actuation of the message control unit.
