An activity toy includes a base with an upper surface that has recessed regions. Elements are positionable in each recessed region. Positioning an element in each recessed region produces a sound. For instance, the sound may be a combination of sounds when more than one element is position in the recesses or a verse of a song that is associated with an element. In addition, the base may be a toy vehicle, with the recesses defining positions in the vehicle. The sound may depend on the position of the elements in the vehicle. The recesses may include a forward recess near the front of the vehicle and a secondary recess located behind the forward recess, and the sound produced may depend on whether an element is placed in the forward or secondary recess.

A toy includes a device that defines a perimeter and a control unit coupled to the boundary device. The control unit includes a detector that senses an event, an output device, and a controller. The controller receives input from the detector and sends an output signal to the output device when the detector senses an event that occurs within the perimeter.

Event-activated toy

A toy which simulates playing a toy stringed instrument is provided. The toy stringed instrument is attached to a body of the toy and a disc couples the body to the toy stringed instrument. A hand on the body is secured to the disc which rotates in response to activation of a motor housed in the body. Thus, rotation of the disc causes corresponding rotation of the hand. A controller is configured to produce music and to activate the motor in conjunction with the music.

A treehouse play set for use with action figures includes a tree-shaped base having a hollow trunk portion and a treehouse platform attached to the trunk portion, and further includes an elevator which is slidably movable on the exterior surface of the trunk portion between a first lowered position wherein the elevator is adjacent a supporting surface and a second raised position wherein the elevator is generally co-planar with the treehouse platform. The play set further includes a tree-growing mechanism disposed within the trunk portion to simulate growing action of the tree when the elevator is moved from the lowered position to the raised position. The tree growing mechanism includes a plurality of elongate branch members which are attached to the top portion of a piston which is slidably received within the trunk portion of the base. The piston is slidably movable within the trunk portion between a first lowered position wherein the branch members are generally disposed within the trunk portion, and a second raised position wherein the branch members extend upwardly and outwardly from the upper end of the trunk portion. The elevator is coupled to the piston wherein movement of the elevator between the lowered and raised positions causes corresponding movement of the piston between the lowered and raised positions.

A musical toy is provided with a base member, a second member connected to the base member so as to form a substantially unobstructed space between the second member and the base member, a plurality of photoemitters for generating a plurality of radiation beams between the base member and the second member, a plurality of photodetectors for receiving the radiation beams, audio generation means for generating a plurality of musical sounds, and means for causing the audio generation means to generate one of the musical sounds in response to an interruption of one of the radiation beams.
