An electronic device incorporating a magnet and a Hall-effect sensor to determine a location of a portion of the electronic device. The electronic device comprises a magnet mechanically coupled to a first portion of the electronic device and a Hall-effect sensor coupled to a second portion of the electronic device where the first portion and the second portion are moveable with reference to each other and where the Hall-effect sensor receives a magnetic field of the magnet. The device further comprises an electronic stage that outputs a comparison threshold signal based on peak detecting an output of the Hall-effect sensor using a long term adjustment and resetting the long term adjustment to a current output of the Hall-effect sensor in response to a short term adjustment and a switch electronic stage that switches in response to the output of the Hall-effect sensor exceeding the comparison threshold output.

A multi-turn angular position sensor includes a fixed magnet non-rotationally coupled to a fixed structure. A shaft is configured to rotate multiple complete rotations from a reference position, where each complete rotation front the reference position in a rotational direction defines a unique rotation zone of the shaft. Rotatable magnets surround the shaft and are disposed between the shaft magnet and the fixed magnet and are configured to rotate a different number of angular degrees than the shaft magnet. One of the rotatable magnets is a zone sensor magnet that rotates no more than one complete rotation from the reference position. A rotational zone sensor supplies a zone sensor output signal that indicates the unique rotation zone of the shaft. A shaft rotation sensor supplies a shaft rotation output signal representative of a number of angular degrees that the shaft rotates within each unique rotation zone.

Steering position sensor (multi-turn 1440 degrees angle position sensor)

An integrated circuit for implementing brushless DC motor control includes a substrate, a band gap temperature sensor, and a magnetic sensor. The substrate has a temperature output pin for connection to an external device and a magnetic sensor output pin for connection to the external device. The band gap temperature sensor is formed on the substrate and is configured to sense temperature and supply a temperature signal representative of the sensed temperature to the temperature output pin. The magnetic sensor is formed on the substrate and is configured to sense magnetic field variations and supply a sensor output signal representative thereof to the magnetic sensor output pin.

An extended range position sensor system includes a first set of spaced-apart magnets, a first sensor, a second set of spaced-apart magnets, a second sensor, and a processor. The first sensor is associated with and is movable relative to the first set of magnets, and is configured to generate a first sensor output signal in response to relative movement between the first sensor and the first set of magnets. The second sensor is associated with and is movable relative to the second set of magnets, and is configured to generate a second sensor output signal in response to relative movement between the second sensor and the second set of magnets. The processor is coupled to receive the first and second sensor output signals and is configured, in response thereto, to generate a position signal.

Extended range position sensor system

A magnetic sensing apparatus includes a first magnetic transducer separated spatially from a second magnetic transducer and proximate to a target and a direction decoding circuit associated with the first and second magnetic transducers, wherein the direction decoding circuit produces output pulses that provide data indicative of a rotation of the target while rejecting rotational vibration signals associated with the target during a rotational detection of the target utilizing the first and second magnetic transducers without producing erroneous output pulses or missing an excessive number of the output pulses during speed and rotational detection operations thereof.

Magnetic sensing apparatus

Magnetic sensing methods and systems are disclosed. A minimum magnetic signal output and a maximum magnetic signal output can be detected utilizing a sensor comprising a peak detector circuit associated with a filter averaging circuit and one or more magnetic elements (e.g., a Hall element and/or magnetoresistive bridge). An average magnetic signal output can then be determined utilizing the filter averaging circuit when a target begins to rotate in front of the sensor.

Sensing methods and systems for hall and/or MR sensors

A magnetic sensor is provided with a housing in which a carrier is inserted. The carrier is particularly shaped to retain a permanent magnet in a particular position relative to a plurality of electrical conductors and a substrate on which a magnetically sensitive component is attached. The carrier and its associated components is inserted into a housing which can be deformed to permanently retain the carrier within a cavity of the housing. All of the components of the sensor are designed to be easily assembly along a common axis to facilitate automatic assembly and manufacture of the sensor. The magnetically sensitive component can be a Hall effect element that is associated with other electrical components which are also attached to a substrate that is disposed proximate a front end of the carrier.
