In response to determining that the information is likely to be of interest to other users, the information is propagated from the second user of the second device, to a third user of a third device within the predetermined distance from the second device, and the third device is included in the ad-hoc network.

A container agent executing on the mobile device receives a container from a container manager server in response to the mobile device being within the predetermined proximity of the physical location. The container comprises instructions that modify the original functionality of the mobile device. Methods and apparatus enable calibration of a display for a particular user thereof. An image displayed such as by an interactive system is adjusted based on physical attributes associated with the user or other characteristics of the user in order to customize the image being displayed. For some embodiments, change to the image includes dynamically resizing and/or repositioning a projected display based on the size and reach of the user to make items shown in the display such as menus or hyperlinks more easily accessible to the user. Input from a camera of the interactive system can be utilized to detect the attribute such as a height of the user for correlation to a typical reach of the user. In operation, the interactive system can therefore dynamically adapt to each unique user as different users approach and interact with the interactive system by automatic calibration of the image being displayed.

A method and apparatus for selectively downloading components over the World-Wide-Web is provided. The preferred embodiment uses a download selection mechanism to display a download selection list to a web browser user. The list allows web user to decide which components to download and which to not download, thereby giving the web user more control over the speed of their Internet accesses. The preferred method produces a table or chart of components and allows the web user to select which components are downloaded.

A current location of a wireless device is determined. A travel time is estimated for the user to travel from the current location of the wireless device to the appointment location. A lead time is determined for the user to prepare prior to travel from the current location to the appointment location. The estimated travel time, the determined lead time and the appointment time is used to determine a projected start time. The user of the wireless device is notified of the appointment if a current time reaches the alarm time.

In accordance with the method and system of the present invention, multiple offset arrays and a conversion matrix are provided. First, an index value is returned from a corresponding one of the offset arrays, for each byte of a multi-byte dataword in a first interchange code. The controls include symbols, such as text that may be replaced with other symbols, such as text in a different language. In response to replacing text in the controls within a window, an amount of resizing is determined for each control this amount of resizing is an amount that is required to expand the control to contain the replacement symbol. The maximum amount of resizing is recorded after each control has been analyzed. For each control in the window, the control is resized by the maximum amount of resizing. The maximum amount of resizing may be adjusted to ensure that the window will be fully displayed within the display device. Additionally, the expansion may be limited only to controls or windows that contain text.

A method and apparatus for facilitating the contextual translation of textual entries within an interactive software application which is executable within a data processing system. A contextual translation procedure is created and inserted into a selected interactive software application. During execution of the selected interactive software application, display screens containing textual entries are typically generated. Upon encountering a screen requiring translation an operator may invoke the contextual translation procedure, causing a translation viewport to be displayed. Individual translate phrases within the display screen are then selected and displayed within the translation viewport. A contextual translation may then be entered into the translation viewport by a translator and displayed therein in proximity to the selected translatable phrase. Upon completion of translation of a selected phrase, the newly created translation is substituted for the existing phrase within the display screen, automatically altering the display area, if necessary, and a subsequent translatable phrase may be selected. In this manner, translation may occur during actual execution of an interactive software application, permitting contextual variations to be observed and compensated for.
