A phenolic resin composition is described comprising at least 50 wt.-% of phenolic resin; first polymerized units comprising a cationic group; and second polymerized units comprising an anionic group. The cationic groups are ionically bonded to the anionic groups. The ionic bonding of the cationic group and anionic group of the polymerized units can provide certain complex viscosity and/or tan delta properties. In some embodiments, the phenolic resin composition has a complex viscosity at 65 C of at least 50 Pascal(seconds) and/or has a tan delta at 65 C ranging from 0.5 to 2.5. Abrasive articles and methods of making an abrasive article are also described.

Phenolic resin composition comprising polymerized ionic groups, abrasive articles and methods

A composition comprises a cyanoacrylate polymer and a protected amine. A method comprises: providing a shaped model comprising a cyanoacrylate polymer; preparing an investment having a cavity that corresponds to the shaped model; and heating the shaped model to sufficient temperature that the cyanoacrylate polymer depolymerizes and volatilizes. A hardenable material may be cast in the investment to provide a replica of the shaped model. A curable composition comprises: a cyanoacrylate monomer; a free-radical photoinitiator; and a protected amine, wherein the curable composition is free of compounds that initiate anionic polymerization of the cyanoacrylate monomer at ambient temperature. A method of curing the curable composition is also disclosed.

Molding process and compositions therefor

The disclosure relates to a curable composition comprising: a polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition having a complex viscosity at 25° C. and 1 Hz frequency of at least about 4500 Pa-s and a probe tack peak force of at least about 300 kPa; and abrasive particles partially or fully embedded in the polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition. The disclosure also relates to cured compositions formed from such curable compositions, wherein the abrasive particles are partially or fully embedded in the cured composition. In addition, the disclosure relates to abrasive articles made from such cured compositions as well as methods for making abrasive articles.

Flexible abrasive article

The disclosure relates to layers comprising a body having a thickness, T, comprising a curable composition comprising a polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition and abrasive particles at least partially embedded in the polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition, wherein the body includes a plurality of void spaces free of the curable composition extending into the body from the first major surface and the depth of the plurality of void spaces is at least 10 percent of thickness T. The disclosure also relates to cured compositions formed from such curable compositions and, in turn, abrasive articles made from such cured compositions as well as methods for making abrasive articles.

Abrasive article

A catalyst for use with a phenolic resins which imparts accelerated curing at reduced temperatures. The catalyst is selected from elemental halogen or opium polyhalide compounds of the general formula:OX,where 1&#x2264;n&#x2264;4, Q is onium group, preferably selected from ammonium, sulfonium and phosphonium; and X is a halide. Each X may be the same or different and may include mixed halides such a X&#x2550;BrCl or ClBr.

A process of preparing polybenzoxazines using an alkylammonium salt of an acid having a pKa in acetonitrile of 9 or more as catalyst is described.

The disclosure provides a catalyst for use with a benzoxazine resins which imparts accelerated curing at reduced temperatures. The catalyst is selected from elemental halogen or onium polyhalide compounds.

Benzoxazine composition

A resin blend is provided including a blend of a benzoxazine resin and a phthalonitrile resin. The benzoxazine/phthalonitrile resin blends prior to cure have more favorable processing and curing properties compared to the phthalonitrile resins alone, enabling greater ease in manufacturing.

A curable benzoxazine composition is described wherein the benzoxazine is derived from an aryl amine having a b.p.&#x3e;200&#xb0; C. The curable compositions are more thermally stable and have reduced weight loss and by-products upon cure.
