Ceiling fan energy consumption efficiency is enhanced with fan blades that have an angle attack that decreases from root end to tip end at higher rates of decrease nearer their tip ends than at their root ends.

High efficiency ceiling fan

An inside-out ceiling fan motor has a stator mounted to a downrod with an annular array of stator coils positioned about a rotor axis of rotation. A rotor is rotatably mounted about the stator. The rotor has a plurality of vanes spaced along the rotor periphery and canted at an angle of attack to a plane of rotor vanes rotation oriented normally to the rotor axis of rotation to scoop ambient air into the rotor during fan operation through the stator coils to cool them.

Ceiling fan motors

A ceiling fan () is disclosed having a motor housing () with an electric motor to which is mounted an annular array of blade irons () each having a blade () mounted thereto. Each blade has two, catch mounting holes () and a fastener mounting hole () extending therethrough. Each blade iron () has a blade mounting portion () and a removable blade fastener (). The blade mounting portion () has a top surface (), two stationary mounting catches (), and a fastener receiver () that is configured to receive fastener (). Each catch has a generally vertical portion () and a top, horizontal portion () The horizontal portion () is spaced a select distance from the top surface () through the height of the vertical portion () so as to catch snugly the blade () therebetween. The fastener () extends through the fastener mounting holeand into the fastener receiver (). The blade may be mounted to the blade iron by passing the catches through the catch mounting holes, sliding the blade outboard and then passing the fastener through the fastener mounting holes of the blade and into the fastener receiver in the blade iron.

A ceiling fan () is disclosed having a motor housing () with an electric motor () to which is mounted an annular array of blade irons () each having a blade () and a locking plate () mounted thereto. Each blade iron has three locking pins (). Each locking pin has a shaft () extending to a head (). Each bladehas three key-hole shaped locking pin mounting holes () extending therethrough, a top surface () and a pair of alignment pins () extending from the top surface. The three locking pin mounting holes are configured and oriented to receive the blade iron locking pins. Each locking plate has a top surface (), three locking pin mounting holes (), a pair of alignment pin slots () and a thumb tab (). The three locking pin mounting holes are configured and oriented to receive and releasably lock with the blade iron locking pins. With the locking pins extending through the blade mounting holes and the locking plate mounting holes the locking plate is pushed outboard to its locked position preventing movement of the blade.
