For a programmable direct current (DC)-DC converter application, a driver system includes a switched mode power circuit for providing a DC power signal to an electrical load and a control block. Control block includes interfaces coupled to receive at least one input signal from a low voltage region of the switched mode power circuit and to provide at least one control signal to the low voltage region. Control block configures the switched mode power circuit to provide the DC power signal having at least one power parameter within a tolerance of a power configuration setting value of the electrical load. Control block responds to the at least one input signal from the low voltage region to adjust operation of the low voltage region via the at least one control signal. Low voltage region can include a plurality of switched converter circuits.

Programmable DC-DC driver system

For a programmable direct current (DC)-DC converter application, a driver system includes a switched mode power circuit for providing a DC power signal to an electrical load and a control block. Control block includes interfaces coupled to receive at least one real-time input signal from a low voltage region of the switched mode power circuit and to provide at least one control signal to the low voltage region. Control block configures the switched mode power circuit to provide the DC power signal having at least one power parameter within a tolerance of a power configuration setting value of the electrical load. Control block responds to the at least one real-time input signal from the low voltage region to adjust operation of the low voltage region via the at least one control signal. Low voltage region can include a plurality of switched converter circuits.

A multi-stage driver system includes a switched mode power circuit for providing power to different electrical load(s). Multi-stage driver system includes a control block including at least one microcontroller coupled to control operations of the switched mode power circuit. Switched mode power circuit includes a high voltage region, a low voltage region, and an isolation barrier. High voltage region of the switched mode power circuit includes a switched rectifier and a switched bridge circuit configured to produce a high voltage bidirectional pulse train signal for output to an isolation barrier. Low voltage region of the switched mode power circuit includes a rectification circuit coupled to the isolation barrier and at least one switched converter circuit coupled to the rectification circuit. Control block receives real-time input signals (e.g., analog voltage reading(s)) from the high and low voltage regions and responsively produces control signals to the high and low voltage regions.

Multi-stage driver system architecture

A ultraviolet (UV) intensity indicator might use a UV responsive lumiphore to provide a converted, visible light level proportional to received UV light intensity for comparison to a visible brightness reference. For a desired UV intensity, the converted light should normally appear at least as bright as the reference light. For undesired UV, e.g. in a harmful wavelength range, the converted light should appear dimmer than the reference for normal operation and/or appear as bright as or brighter than the reference during excessive emission of the potentially hazardous UV emission. Alternatively, saturable lumiphores may provide different color outputs responsive to UV intensities for comparison to a multi-colored reference. Other examples contemplate use of a lumiphore to convert UV light to provide a visible light input to a visible light meter, such that an illuminance or brightness measurement by the meter gives a proportional representation of intensity of the UV light.

Programmable multi-stage driver system

An example configurable lighting device includes a controllable general illumination device configured to output illumination light sufficient for general illumination of an area and a display configured to output light as a representation of an image into the area. The display is co-located with the general illumination device such that an available output region of the display towards the area at least substantially overlaps an available output region of the general illumination device towards the area. The lighting device has a light output surface configured and located such that light output from the general illumination device and light output from the display propagate out via the light output surface. The lighting device also has a noise reduction structure.

Configurable lighting device incorporating noise reduction

Lighting devices are disclosed. One lighting device includes a housing, a light source, and a panel. The light source is mounted within the housing and configured to emit light sufficient for general illumination of an area. The panel is supported by the housing at a location to receive light from the light source at one or more light input surfaces of the panel and output the received light from the light source via a light output surface of the panel facing the area. The light propagates within material of the panel from the one or more light input surfaces to the light output surface. The light output surface of the panel comprises a noise reduction structure.

Noise reducing lighting devices

Disclosed herein is a lighting system including a luminaire having a lighting device and a sound reduction device. The lighting device includes an illumination output surface, which is at least partially reflective with respect to an audio wave from outside the luminaire. The lighting device also includes an illumination light source configured to generate illumination light for emission through the illumination output surface for illumination of an area. The sound reduction device includes a pick up microphone and an audio output source. The pick up microphone is configured to detect incoming audio waves in a vicinity of the luminaire. The lighting system further includes a circuitry including a sound reduction controller coupled to the pick up microphone and the audio output source of the sound reduction device. The sound reduction controller is configured to operate the audio output source to control sound at least in vicinity of the illuminated area associated with the incoming audio waves.

Active sound control in a lighting system

Examples of a lighting and display type luminaire use relatively transparent lighting devices. In such a luminaire, a light transmissive element of the lighting device is coupled to an output of a display device. For example, an edge lit lighting device includes an optical waveguide and one or more illumination light sources coupled to supply light to/through a surface along an edge or periphery of the waveguide. The waveguide allows emission of illumination light through a front surface. A display is coupled to a back surface of the waveguide. During display operations, the waveguide is sufficiently transparent to allow image display light to pass through the waveguide for emission through the front surface of the waveguide. Another example utilizes a light transmissive OLED (organic light emitting diode) panel as the relatively transparent lighting device.

An example lighting device has a luminaire. The luminaire includes an illumination light source matrix including illumination light sources configured to be driven by electrical power to emit light rays for illumination lighting. The luminaire further includes an optical lens positioned and configured to extend over the illumination light source matrix and including an input surface coupled to receive incoming light rays emitted by the illumination light sources and an output surface. Both the input surface and the output surface each include various portions to refract or total internally reflect the incoming light rays emitted by the illumination light sources passing through to shape or steer the illumination lighting into an outputted beam pattern. A coupled illumination light source driver selectively controls the illumination light sources individually or in combination to adjust the outputted beam pattern from the optical lens.

The examples herein relate to assembly techniques and structures for an electrowetting cell, e.g. a fluid lens, a fluid prism or a single cell that may support both variable lens and variable prism functions. The resulting cell structure, for example, may support both beam shaping and steering functions, e.g. supporting use of the same electrowetting cell structure for a wider variety of optical processing applications. The resulting cell may be used in combination with an optical/electrical transducer or an array of cells may be used with a transducer in systems for a various light input and/or output applications.

An example lighting device has illumination light sources, each configured to be independently driven. The device further includes an optical lens positioned over the illumination light sources. The optical lens has a number of aspheric or spheric convex surfaces, including an input surface and an output surface. The input surface includes an input peripheral portion and an input central portion. The input peripheral portion extends from the illumination light sources and curves from a region of the illumination light sources towards the input central portion. The input central portion curves towards the illumination light sources. The output surface includes an output lateral portion, an output shoulder portion, and an output body portion. Another example uses optical-to-electrical transducers, e.g. light detector or photovoltaic devices, in combination with the optical lens, for light reception transducer applications.

Optical lens for beam shaping and steering and devices using the optical lens

The disclosed examples relate to methods and systems facilitate self-healing of regions of electrowetting devices. Electrowetting devices may be coupled to a switchable AC/DC electrical power supply that provides AC power to the electrowetting device to control electrowetting device operation and DC power to promote self-healing of the electrowetting device. A monitoring circuit outputs a signal in response to electrical power supply operating characteristic changes due to a failure of the electrowetting device's dielectric. The controller, responding to the signal, switches the power supply output from AC power to DC power to the electrowetting device. In response to the DC power, the electrowetting device responds by healing the degraded dielectric. When the failure is determined to be corrected, the power supply output is switched from DC power to AC power to the electrowetting device. The number of times self-healing is applied may be tracked for future analysis.

Intelligent self-healing of electrowetting devices

An example lighting device has a luminaire. The luminaire includes an illumination light source matrix including illumination light sources configured to be driven by electrical power to emit light rays for illumination lighting. The luminaire further includes an optical lens positioned and configured to extend over the illumination light source matrix and including an input surface coupled to receive incoming light rays emitted by the illumination light sources and an output surface. Both the input surface and the output surface each include at least two different aspherical, spherical, or planar portions to refract the incoming light rays emitted by the illumination light sources passing through to shape or steer the illumination lighting into an outputted beam pattern. A coupled illumination light source driver selectively controls the illumination light sources individually or in combination to adjust at least a beam angle of the outputted beam pattern from the optical lens.

Disclosed herein is a lighting device including a luminaire having a first light emitter configured to output image and a second light emitter configured to output illumination light. The first light emitter is oriented with the second light emitter such that an available output region of the second light emitter at least substantially overlaps an available output region of the first light emitter. The lighting device also includes a processing system coupled to a driver system, which is coupled to the luminaire. The processing system, via the driver system, is configured to operate the first light emitter to output the image and operate the second light emitter to output the illumination light; and during the operations of the first and light emitters to output a combined light via the substantial overlap, to control the output of at least one of the image or the illumination light to control flicker due to interaction of a portion of the image and a portion of the illumination light.
