A multi-functional handle assembly for an exercise machine includes: a strap arranged in a Figure-8 configuration to form a near loop and a far loop extending in generally opposite directions from a crossing point in the strap; a handle having a cavity formed therethrough, wherein the near loop extends to the near side of the handle and the far loop extends from the far side of the handle, the crossing point of the strap positioned in the cavity; a cushioning cuff attached to the far loop; a bearing member having a slot, wherein portions of the near loop are threaded through the slot, such that the bearing member is slidable relative to the portions of the near loop; and means for attaching the handle assembly to the exercise machine, the means for attaching the handle assembly being attached to the near loop. The handle can be drawn between the bearing member and the cushioning cuff, the strap sliding within the handle, such that the near loop and the far loop change in size with sliding of the handle. Movement of the handle and the bearing member can enable the handle assembly to be used with upper body, triceps extension, and leg/hip exercises.

Multi-function handle for weight training machine

A weight stack for an exercise machine may include one or more primary and secondary load elements that are selectively joined to a weight carriage. The load elements may be supported from below by one or more support beams and positioned at spaced apart locations on the support beam when the weight carriage is located at its rest position or when the load elements are not joined to the weight carriage during an exercise. The load elements may include engagement surfaces that engage the beam either directly by contacting the beam or indirectly via a divider structure positioned between the load elements and the beam. For some load elements, the engagement surfaces define a portion of a slot in the load element. The exercise machine may further include a single guide pole that constrains the weight carriage to move substantially linearly and vertically relative to the exercise machine's support frame.

Selectable weight stack

A lockout mechanism for a selection mechanism on an exercise machine, the selection mechanism being associated with a carriage for selectively carrying load. The carriage may include a support system adjustable by the selection mechanism for adjusting the amount of load to be carried. The lockout mechanism may include a lockout member configured to prevent adjustment of the selection mechanism during exercise.

Lockout mechanism for a weight stack exercise machine

A weight stack assembly for an exercise machine includes: a plurality of weights arranged in a vertical stack; a post extending through the weights, and a selector unit. Each of the weights includes an open-ended, forwardly facing slot, wherein the slots of each of a first set of the weights form a first column, and wherein the slots of each of a second set of the weights form a second column that is parallel to but non-coincident with the first column. The vertical stack is formed by alternating first and second weight. The post is configured to connect with a movement arm of an exercise machine and includes a first column of apertures that align with the slots of the first set of weights and a second column of apertures that align with the second set of weights. The selector unit is configured to be inserted into one of the slots and one of the apertures to select a portion of the weights to provide resistance for exercise.

Weight stack assembly for exercise machine

A weight exercise machine may include an exercise member, one or more weights, and one or more weight selectors. When using the machine to exercise, the user exerts an exercise force against the exercise member. A weight selector may be rotated, pivoted, or otherwise moved to operably couple the exercise member to at least one of the weights such that displacement of the exercise member causes at least one of the weights to displace, thus providing resistance to displacement of the exercise member. The weights may include main weights and add-on weights for operative coupling to the exercise member via a movable frame. The one or more weight selectors allow for selection of different combinations of weights for providing resistance to displacement of the exercise member.

Exercise machine having rotatable weight selection index

The present invention is a weight exercise machine for use by a user. The machine comprises an exercise member, a plurality of weights, and an index. The user exerts an exercise force against the exercise member when using the machine to exercise. The index is rotated to operably couple the exercise member to at least one of the weight plates such that the displacement of the exercise member causes the at least one of the weight plates to displace. The plurality of weight plates includes a first weight plate type and a second weight plate type having configurations and masses that differ. The index allows selection of different combinations of weight plates for operable coupling to the exercise member.

An abdominal exercise apparatus is provided that includes at least a lower carriage, an upper carriage, and a frame supporting the lower and upper carriages. A linkage mechanism operably associates the upper and lower carriages together to allow coordinated movement relative to one another. The upper carriage includes an upper pivot axis relative to the frame, and an upper carriage pivot axis relative to the upper carriage, and the lower carriage includes a lower pivot axis relative to the frame.

Dual axis abdominal exercise apparatus

An exercise machine for exercising the calf muscles of a seated exerciser includes: a frame configured to rest on an underlying surface; a seat assembly mounted on the frame on which the exerciser sits; a movement arm pivotally interconnected with the frame forwardly of the seat assembly; a heel pad mounted on the frame forwardly of the seat assembly and configured to receive the heel of the exerciser; a trailing link pivotally attached to the movement arm; a foot engagement member attached to the trailing link such that the foot engagement member is positioned above and forwardly of the heel pad, the foot engagement member having an engagement surface configured to receive a portion of the sole of the foot of the exerciser; and a resistance-imparting unit interconnected with the movement arm. The movement arm is movable by the exerciser between a flexed position, in which the sole of the foot of the exerciser engages the engagement surface of the foot engagement member as the heel of the exerciser engages the heel pad, such that the foot is generally perpendicular to the shin of exerciser, and an extended position, in which the foot points away from the shin as the sole of the foot of the exerciser remains engaged with the engagement surface of the foot engagement member and the heel remains engaged with the heel pad.

An exercise machine for performing leg curl and leg extension movements includes: a frame configured to rest on an underlying surface; an upper leg-supporting assembly pivotally interconnected with the frame, the upper leg-supporting assembly having a seat pad; a torso-supporting assembly pivotally interconnected with the frame and with the upper leg-supporting assembly, the torso-supporting assembly having a backrest pad; a leg curl assembly arm pivotally interconnected with the frame about a first pivot axis; a leg extension assembly arm pivotally interconnected with the frame about a second pivot axis; a resistance-imparting unit coupled with the leg curl movement arm and the leg extension movement arm; and a conversion mechanism interconnected with the frame and/or the torso-supporting assembly and the upper leg-supporting assembly. The conversion mechanism moves the torso-supporting assembly and the upper leg-supporting assembly between a leg extension position, wherein the seat pad and the backrest pad combine to form a backrest and seat for a seated exerciser, and the second pivot axis is positioned in front of a front edge of the seat pad, and a leg curl position, wherein the seat pad and backrest pad combine to form a curl platform for a prone exerciser, and the first pivot is positioned above a plane defined by an upper surface of the seat pad.

Leg curl/leg extension weight training machine

An exercise machine composed of a frame, a first four bar linkage system, a second four bar linkage system, and a means for transferring an incident force from the legs of a user is disclosed. The first four bar linkage system is operably mounted on the frame and operably connects the transferring means to the frame to allow for back and forth movement of the transferring means along a path of travel about an instantaneously changing axis of rotation. The second four bar linkage system operably engages the first four bar linkage system. Either or both of the first four bar linkage system and the second four bar linkage system are operably connected to a resistance means, whereby the second four bar linkage system operates in conjunction with the first four bar linkage system and the resistance means to create a mechanical disadvantage to the user.

Leg press and abdominal crunch exercise machine

An exercise machine for exercising muscles in the back of an exerciser, includes: a frame; a seat assembly attached to the frame; a movement arm pivotally attached to the frame and movable along a stroke path between an upper forward position and a lower rearward position; a resistance-imparting unit operatively connected with the movement arm to provide resistance to the movement arm as it moves from the forward position to the rearward position; a pair of handles to be grasped by the exerciser; and a pair of extension members, each of which is attached to a respective handle such that each handle is free to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the extension member. The extension members are attached to the movement arm such that each extension member is free to at least partially rotate relative to the movement arm about vertical, longitudinal and transverse axes. Also, the extension members are of sufficient length and the extension members are attached to the movement arm (preferably via universal ball joints) so that the handles can be separated by a distance of at least 24 inches when the movement arm is in the rearward position. In this configuration, the exerciser has the option of performing the basic lat pulldown motion with the hands in any orientation, and can pull the handles to multiple positions in front of the chest and shoulders or outside the chest and shoulders.

Lat pulldown weight training machine

An exercise machine includes: a frame configured to rest on an underlying surface; a seat mounted to the frame; a backrest mounted to the frame above the seat, the seat and backrest being configured to receive a seated user; a pair of movement arm units pivotally interconnected with the frame and movable about respective generally parallel first and second axes of rotation; and a resistance system connected with the movement arm units. Each of the movement arms is configured to engage at least one of the elbows, forearms and hands of the user and is movable, within a range of motion plane that is generally normal to the first and second axes of rotation, between an extended position and a flexed position. The range of motion plane forms an angle of between about 30 and 80 degrees with the backrest.

Weight training machine for exercising the upper chest muscles

An inclined leg press machine includes: a frame that includes a base configured to rest on an underlying surface and a pair of inclined guides; a seat assembly attached to the frame; a weight sled slidably engaged with the guides along a travel path that is substantially parallel with the guides, the weight sled operatively coupled with a resistance source; and a foot platform assembly movable with the weight sled, the foot platform assembly having a foot platform that receives the feet of an exerciser. The weight sled is movable along the travel path between flexed and extended positions. The foot platform rotates relative to the underlying surface as the weight sled moves between the flexed and extended positions so that, when the exerciser's feet are placed flat on the foot platform, the exerciser's feet and tibiae are maintained at an angle of approximately ninety degrees.
