A satellite antenna includes first and second extensible booms and first and second sets of ribs carried by the respective first and second extensible booms. A Radio Frequency (RF) reflective film is carried by the first and second sets of ribs. First and second phased array antenna feeds are carried by the respective first and second extensible booms and directed toward the RF reflective film. First and second sets of fiducial devices are carried by the respective first and second sets of ribs. At least one camera is directed toward the first and second sets of fiducial devices to sense a physical distortion of the RF reflective film. A controller cooperates with the at least one camera to operate the first and second sets of phased array antenna feeds to account for sensed physical distortion of the RF reflective film.

Satellite antenna having fiducial devices for compensating physical distortion and associated methods

An antenna assembly to be carried by a satellite includes an antenna feed configured to extend outwardly from the satellite, and a frame rotatably carried by the antenna feed and is rotatable about a first rotation axis. A main reflector is carried by the frame and is aligned with the antenna feed. A splash plate is carried by the frame in spaced apart relation from the main reflector and is rotatable about a second rotation axis.

Steerable satellite antenna assembly with fixed antenna feed and associated methods

An antenna system includes an antenna feed aligned with a subreflector and a main reflector. The subreflector has a concave surface defining a vertex. A main reflector having a concave surface is aligned with the subreflector to define an antenna focal area at the vertex of the subreflector. The antenna feed may be a phased array or fixed antenna feed. The antenna system may further include a controller cooperating with the phased array antenna feed for beamsteering or beamforming. The controller may cooperate with the phased array antenna feed to define and steer multiple beams, at different frequencies, for example.

Dual reflector antenna and associated methods

A reduced weight, low profile, stacked patch antenna includes an `active` antenna patch element, a `parasitic` antenna patch element, and a tuning stub portion of a microstrip feed, which resonate at respectively different frequencies. The tuning stub is located adjacent to the active patch element, so that electromagnetic field energy associated with the tuning stub is coupled to the active and parasitic patches of the stacked patch structure, thereby creating a distributed resonance characteristic, having an augmented bandwidth compared with that of a conventional patch antenna. Manufacture of the stacked patch antenna is facilitated by the use of both a proximity feed and the interleaving of layers of adhesive material among the respective components of the stacked structure.
