An aspect of the present disclosure includes methods, systems, and computer-readable media for triggering the single signal during the first buffer period to concurrently adjust a first plurality of gain states of a first plurality of low-noise amplifiers associated with a first expected reception of the first symbol on the first component carrier and a second plurality of gain states of a second plurality of low-noise amplifiers associated with a second expected reception of the second symbol on the second component carrier, and receiving the first symbol via the first component carrier and the second symbol via the second component carrier after the first buffer period.

Methods and apparatus for dynamic adjustment of amplifier gain

A system and method are provided for updating persistent data in a wireless communications device. The wireless communications device receives patch manager run time instructions from an airlink interface. A run-time engine is launched. The run-time engine receives the patch manager run time instructions with dynamic instruction sets and new code sections, including updated persistent data. The run-time engine processes the dynamic instruction sets. In response to processing the dynamic instruction sets, the run-time engine selectively updates persistent data in the system software. The updated persistent data may, for example, be selected from the following: radio frequency (RF) calibration data, nonvolatile system and user configuration data, resource data, nonvolatile system and user application data, and arbitrary data.

System and method for updating persistent data in a wireless communications device

Techniques for sending page messages with quality of service (QoS) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a network entity receives incoming packets for access terminals operating in an idle state, generates page messages in response to the incoming packets, and includes QoS information in the page messages. The QoS information for each page message may indicate whether the page message is delay sensitive. A base transceiver station (BTS) receives page messages with QoS information and sends the page messages to access terminals based on the QoS information. In one design, the BTS determines whether each page message is delay sensitive based on the QoS information, sends page messages that are delay sensitive, and either sends or delays sending page messages that are delay insensitive in order to reduce the number of packets to send for the page messages.

Paging with QoS in a wireless communication system

Methods and apparatus for selecting one or more suitable antennas for use during power-up/initial acquisition and out of service modes are disclosed. In some examples, initial system acquisition may be performed for a particular receive circuit utilizing a selected one of a first antenna or a second antenna, based on a channel characteristic, such as an automatic gain control (AGC) value corresponding to a received signal energy utilizing either of the antennas. In another example, initial system acquisition utilizing either a receive diversity determination algorithm or an antenna switching determination algorithm may be performed based on a channel characteristic, such as an AGC value corresponding to a received signal energy utilizing one of the antennas coupled to one of the receive circuits.

Devices, methods, and systems for initial signal acquisition

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus for antenna switching for simultaneous communication. One apparatus embodiment includes a plurality of antennas including a first antenna, a second antenna, and a third antenna. The wireless communication apparatus further includes a plurality of receive circuits including a first receive circuit, at least two of the plurality of receive circuits each configured to simultaneously receive, with respect to the other, wireless communications from a different one of at least two networks relating to different radio access technologies. The wireless communication apparatus further includes a controller configured to selectively switch the first receive circuit from receiving wireless communications via the first antenna to receive wireless communications via the second antenna based on one or more performance characteristics of at least one of the first antenna and the second antenna. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Antenna switching devices, methods, and systems for simultaneous communication

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate dynamically allocating demodulation resources of a wideband receiver to provide improved demodulation of simultaneously received signals. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and/or packet error rate (PER) can be measured for the plurality of carriers to determine which demodulators related to the carriers require more resources than others to demodulate signals at a specified signal quality. Where the SNR of a related carrier is high and/or PER is low, the demodulator can require fewer resources than where the SNR of a related carrier is low and/or PER is high. In this regard, the resources are dynamically allocated among the demodulators and reallocated where SNR/PER changes and/or additional resources are made available.

Optimized finger assignment for improved multicarrier throughput

Growing demand for high-rate wireless data services is increasing the power consumption requirements of mobile devices. In particular, some smart mobile devices or smart phones are configured to allow multiple software applications to run simultaneously. Some of the applications receive and/or pull data from servers in communication with the network. The more frequently these software applications are provided with access to the data channel the greater the demand on the power supply. Accordingly, there lies a challenge to regulate transmissions to and from a mobile device without adversely impacting quality-of-service (QoS). A method of managing power while maintaining a robust quality-of-service (QoS) is provided by managing the frequency at which a paging channel or the like is monitored. Complimentary methods of changing the frequency of transmission of alerts on a paging channel or the like is also provided.

A device and method for resolving conflicts between air interfaces in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises communicating over a first air interface, receiving a request for resources for concurrent use in communicating over a second air interface, determining that a conflict does not exist between resources for the first air interface and at least a portion of the requested resources for the second air interface, and concurrently communicating over the first air interface using resources for the first air interface and communicating over the second air interface using at least a portion of the requested resources for the second air interface.

The input has a first signal encoded using a first radio technology and a second signal encoded using a second radio technology. The input is converted from an analog domain to a digital domain. A system and method of conducting wireless communications between a wireless communication device (WCD) and both a first network (e.g., IS-2000) supporting voice and data services and a second network (e.g., IS-856) supporting packet data services. The method comprises providing the WCD with a primary transceiver and a secondary receiver for conducting wireless communications in a spatial diversity for the second network traffic or broadcast; disabling the secondary receiver and spatial diversity before a paging slot or 1x system acquisition and synchronization attempts; tuning the secondary receiver to a first network carrier frequency to perform first network activities; and retuning the secondary receiver to a second network carrier frequency for spatial diversity after performing the first network activities. The first network activities may include pilot set maintenance, overhead message maintenance, page match detection, or 1x system acquisition and synchronization attempts.

Apparatus and method for allowing page monitoring of a communication system during traffic/broadcast channel operation without reducing traffic performance

Apparatus and methods are described herein for detecting pilot signals. An access terminal determines whether each pilot signal in its active set can be tracked. If not, the access terminal adjusts the search window center associated with any untracked pilot to a position that allows tracking. In some aspects, a known search window center of a tracked member of a same pilot group may be used.

Apparatus and method of searching multi-carrier active set pilots

A method and system for correcting timing errors due to thermal changes within a portable computing device are disclosed. The system and method may include calculating an estimate of frequency for a first clock compared to a second clock. The first clock may comprise a crystal oscillator while the second clock comprises a system clock. Next, a sleep state may be calculated for a hardware device, such as radio access technology ('RAT') module, based on the estimate of frequency for the first clock. An error in the frequency of the first clock that may occur during the sleep state of the hardware device may be calculated. Subsequently, a magnitude of time that corresponds to an actual length of the sleep state relative to the second clock may be calculated so that an internal clock of the hardware devices may be synchronized with the second clock.

Method and system for correcting timing errors due to thermal changes within a portable computing device

A system and method of improving wireless communications between a wireless communication device and both a first network supporting voice and data services and a second network supporting packet data services. The method comprises providing the WCD with a primary transceiver and a secondary receiver for conducting wireless communications in both a simultaneous-mode and a hybrid-mode; performing simultaneous-mode-to-hybrid-mode and hybrid-mode-to-simultaneous-mode transitions based on a performance metric; and evaluating the performance metric to determine whether to perform the mode transitions. In the simultaneous-mode, the primary transceiver conducts wireless communications in the second network and the secondary receiver conducts wireless communications in the first network. In the hybrid-mode, the primary transceiver use is time multiplexed during all of the first and second networks communications combinations. When the metric measures below a threshold, the WCD reverts from one mode to another mode at paging slot wake-ups.
