A cleaning station for removing particulate material from a moving web in an electrographic printer/copier includes a customer-replaceable web-cleaner device with a support bracket/backup shoe assembly. The web-cleaner has two wiper blades, including one or more profiled metal blades, each having a distinguishment such that the distinguishment distinguishes one wiper blade from the other wiper blade when the blades are locked into the cleaner sump by springs, to facilitate material removed from the web. The wiper cleaning blades and the cover assembly are easily replaceable by the operator in the correct order.

A precision release agent management system for an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus fuser device. The precision release agent management system includes a reservoir adapted to contain a release agent. A wick absorbs release agent from the reservoir. A metering member receives release agent from the wick, which is supported for resiliently urging into operative contact with the metering member. A blade member is associated with the metering member to establish a desired thickness of release agent on the metering member, and a donor member is adapted to receive release agent from the metering member, and operatively contact the fuser device to apply the release agent thereto. A plurality of features is associated with the reservoir for precise alignment of the donor member, the metering member, and the metering blade.

Method and apparatus for applying a constant load to a roller

With a fuser apparatus, for example having a pair of rollers in nip relation to transport a receiver member therebetween, to permanently fix a marking particle image to such receiver member, a skive mechanism for stripping a receiver member adhering to a fuser apparatus roller from the roller, and a mechanism for applying a release oil to the fuser rollers. The skive mechanism includes a plurality of skive fingers formed as elongated, thin, flexible members located so as to engage the fuser apparatus rollers in a manner so as to substantially prevent damage to such associated fuser apparatus rollers. Each of the skive fingers have capillary micro-grooves formed therein for the purpose of channeling release oil away from the respective skive finger tips, thereby substantially eliminating image degradation by build up of the release oil.

A cantilever drum-mounting apparatus adapted for use in a document printer/copier having a housing having: an opening therein; a carriage movably mounted within the opening and adapted to receive, retain and rotatably support an axle of a drum; and a plurality of guide mechanisms, rotatably mounted on the carriage and engageable with opposing outer surface of the housing, for limiting movement of the carriage to a direction substantially normal to the axis for drum rotation. Preferably, movement of the carriage is controlled by the actuator of an air cylinder that cooperates with one or more reference surfaces within the housing opening to locate the drum axle at a desired position.

A document printer/copier comprises a pair of drum-support members for rotatably supporting an image-recording drum and, optionally, an intermediate image-transfer drum. At least one of such drum-support members is adapted to be decoupled from the drum(s) it supports and be moved to a position within the machine frame in which it does interfere with the replacement of the drum(s)'s outer layer. Preferably, such member comprises a selectively energizable clamp which, when energized, clamps onto an axle bearing of a drum and thereby supports the drum for rotation. When de-energized, the clamp releases the drum bearing, enabling the drum-support member to be slid axially along the drum axis to a position spaced from the drum axle, and thereafter pivoted to a position spaced from the drum axis where it does not interfere with drum servicing and/or replacement.

Document printer/copier with decoupleable drum-support member

A document printer/copier comprises a pair of drum-support members for rotatably supporting an image-recording drum and, optionally, an intermediate image-transfer drum. At least one of such drum-support members is adapted to be decoupled from the drum(s) it supports and be moved to a position within the machine frame in which it does interfere with the replacement of the drum(s)'s outer layer. Preferably, such member comprises a selectively energizeable clamp which, when energized, clamps onto an axle bearing of a drum and thereby supports the drum for rotation. When de-energized, the clamp releases the drum bearing, enabling the drum-support member to be slid axially along the drum axis to a position spaced from the drum axle, and thereafter pivoted to a position spaced from the drum axis where it does not interfere with drum servicing and/or replacement.

A device for cooling receiver members after image fixing by the fuser assembly in an electrographic reproduction apparatus wherein a marking particle image is fixed to a receiver member with application of heat by the fuser assembly, the receiver member traveling along a transport path. The cooling device includes an upper housing and a lower housing respectively associated with the receiver member transport path, on opposite sides thereof, immediately downstream, in the direction of receiver member travel along the transport path, of the fuser assembly. The upper and lower housings respectively have transport path guide plates for guiding receiver members along the transport path. A plurality of ports defined in the upper housing transport path guide plate provide flow communication of pressurized air from a pressurized air source to the transport path, and a plurality of ports in the lower housing transport path guide plate provide flow communication of pressurized air from the pressurized air source to the transport path. Accordingly, air impingement for forced air provides convection cooling of receiver members traveling along the transport path and such air impingement also provides for transport of the receiver members via an air bearing thereby substantially preventing the receiver members from contacting the upper and lower guide path plates.

A bellows for use in an exposure station of an electrophotographic copier or other reproduction apparatus. The bellows has one end thereof coupled to a movable lens for changing the image reduction/magnification ratio of the station. The lens movement is such that movement of the lens from one extreme imaging position to another extreme imaging position is accomplished by everting of the bellows to permit for a more compact bellows design.
