Color changeable indicator particles having a meltable, particulate organic core, and at least one color changeable indicator coated on the particulate organic core. Color changeable indicator particles can be incorporated into composite polymer materials while maintaining the efficacy and stability of the indicator. The indicators provide simple, reliable, and cost effective detection means for detecting ammonia and carbon dioxide, and may find use in applications such as food packaging and medical applications.

According to embodiments of the present application, a color change sensor comprises a color change indicator and a substrate comprising a gas disposed on the color change indicator. The sensor may further comprise an interface layer that assists in containing the gas within the substrate. The sensor may be used with limited use, restricted use, or disposable apparatuses. The user may actuate the sensor by disrupting or removing the gas-containing substrate and/or the interface layer. Methods of making and using the color change sensor and related apparatuses are also disclosed.

According to embodiments of the present application, a carbon dioxide sensing color changeable dye can comprise a carbon dioxide status indicator, a solvent, a polymer wherein the carbon dioxide status indicator is dispersed, an optional plasticizer, and an optional agent to facilitate mixing. The present technology includes a color changeable indicator that changes color upon exposure of the indicator to high pressure and comprises at least one reagent releasing layer, a transition layer disposed on the reagent releasing layer, a color changeable layer disposed on the transition layer, and a non-porous protectant encompassing the reagent releasing layer, the transition layer and the color changeable layer. An additional reagent releasing layer can be located between the transition layer and the color changeable layer. Molded ophthalmic lenses with improved optical qualities can be manufactured at high volumes at low costs to provide single-use lenses. These ophthalmic lenses are contact lenses for examination or treatment of the interior of an eye, are formed of a moldable material, and have a ring portion integral with an optical and eye contacting portions. The ring portion extends from the main body and the ratio of the height of the ring portion to thickness of the lens is about 0.1 to 0.2. These features reduce production costs and improve the optical quality of the lens including allowing any debris, bubbles and the like that tend to adhere to the surface of the mold during the molding process to collect away from the optical centerline of the lens so as to improve the optical quality of the molded ophthalmic lens and minimizing shrinkage during the molding process.

A time exposure indicator comprises at least one color changeable dye disposed to change color in a sequential manner.

An apparatus with time controlled color change indication comprises an apparatus includes a disposable, limited or restricted use product and an oxygen sensing color changeable dye disposed on a portion of the apparatus, the dye being translucent or having a first color upon application and for a defined time thereafter and the dye changing color after exposure to oxygen for the defined time. For example, a packaging for containing a product for human consumption has a portion with a color changeable dye disposed thereon. The dye changes color after being exposed to oxygen for a controlled and predetermined period of time indicating that the product for human consumption should no longer be consume or has decreased in freshness, quality of taste or potency.
