A connector-assembly includes a connector-housing, one or more cavity-plugs, and a strain-relief-device. The connector-housing defines a plurality of cavities configured to retain a plurality of electrical-terminals inserted along a longitudinal-axis of the connector-housing. The plurality of electrical-terminals are attached to cables extending beyond a wire-end of the connector-housing. The one or more cavity-plugs are individually disposed into a portion of the plurality of cavities. The one or more cavity-plugs are configured to inhibit contamination from entering the portion of the plurality of cavities. The strain-relief-device is removably attached to the wire-end of the connector-housing. The strain-relief-device defines a plurality of apertures through which the cables extend. The strain-relief-device includes one or more cavity-plug-retainers disposed within a portion of the plurality of apertures that inhibit a removal of the one or more cavity-plugs from the portion of the plurality of cavities.

An electrical connection system for interfacing with an end portion of a strut rod, wherein the electrical connection therebetween is sealed against environmental degradation and is unaffected by vehicular vibration, and wherein the electrical connection system is easily installed and easily serviced. A connector includes a connector shell having an upper end and an opposite lower end; an insert which carries a ground terminal and a power terminal within the connector shell; a lock ring which interfaces connectably with the connector shell to provide anchorage with the end portion of the strut rod; and seals at the upper and lower ends of the connector shell. The ground terminal connects with a ground cable and resiliently clips onto a smooth section of the end portion of the strut rod, wherein the strut rod serves as the ground conduit. The power terminal is connected with a power cable and abuts a pin axially resident in the strut rod. In order to assure proper seating of the terminals with respect to the strut rod, the lock ring is inhibited from rotating with respect to the connector shell unless it has been sufficiently placed over the strut rod. Connector position assurance (CPA) is provided by a CPA member which snappingly engages the connector shell and the lock ring only when they are correctly interfaced with each other and thereupon prevents rotation relative to each other.

Electrical connection system for a selectably adjustable ride strut

An insert molded multiple contact electrical connector comprising a molded insert of thermoplastic insulating material having a barrel shaped body which has a plurality of circumferentially spaced grooves and a plurality of cable grips. The cable grips are formed by semicircular grooves in parallel segments of a polygonal flange at one end of the barrel shaped body. A plurality of electrical contacts which are attached to a plurality of electric cables by core and insulation crimp wings are disposed in the grooves and the cable grips respectively to form a subassembly. An outer housing of thermoplastic insulating material is molded over the subassembly in a die which has a plurality of cable grip parts which cooperate with the respective cable grips of the molded insert to retain and seal around the electric cables individually and to space the electric cables from each other when the outer housing of thermoplastic insulating material is molded over the subassembly. The electrical contacts also have tangs which are disposed against the opposite end of the barrel shaped body between axially projecting lugs.

An electrical connector has an interface seal mounted on a plug portion of a thermoplastic connector body which serves as the mounting surface for the interface seal. The plug portion has a conformation which opens onto the mounting surface and the interface seal has a retainer portion which snaps into the conformation to assure that the interface seal is always correctly positioned. The interface seal has a sealing portion which is made of silicone compounds and the retainer portion is made from thermoplastic material or silicone compounds having a substantially higher durometer than the silicone compounds of the sealing portion.

An electrical component packaging assembly in which the same structure and operation that makes electrical contact between a pair of terminals and a pair of leads of the component also serves to simultaneously mechanically lock the terminals to the assembly. The component leads are fitted within aligned slots in the terminals and in a housing to lock the terminals against withdrawal from the housing.
