Life support systems include a pressure garment, a helmet, and a life support system enclosure that define an enclosed environment. The life support system includes one or more life support components to generate breathable gas within the enclosed environment. The gas is directed along a closed-loop flow path through the system. The life support components includes a fan for driving a flow of the gas through the closed-loop flow path and an acoustic damper arranged along the flow path and to reduce noise generated by the fan. The acoustic damper includes a housing defining an annular cavity arranged about a portion of the flow path, with the housing having a solid exterior surface and an inner diameter surface with openings to fluidly connect the flow path with the annular cavity and at least one acoustic damping element arranged within the annular cavity.

A control system in an atmospheric suit includes a broadcast-type controller area network (CAN) bus and a plurality of motor controllers coupled to the CAN bus. Each of the plurality of motor controllers has a same software design and performs a different control operation based on an assigned hardware address. The control system also includes one or more sensors to sense one or more parameter values in the atmospheric suit and to provide the one or more parameter values on the CAN bus. A primary controller communicates with the plurality of motor controllers via the CAN bus and provides communication to a wearer of the atmospheric suit or communication outside the atmospheric suit outside the CAN bus.

An extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) includes a resonant coil on a surface of the EMU to be coupled to a second resonant coil affixed to a structure via a resonant magnetic field. The EMU also includes a receiver in the EMU coupled to the resonant coil to provide a direct current (DC) voltage based on the resonant magnetic field. A battery in the EMU is charged based on the DC voltage.

A carbon dioxide sensor has a conduit connecting to a source of breathing air and delivering a sample of breathing air into a test chamber. A radiation source applies radiation across the chamber. A sensor detects modification in the radiation as it passes through the air sample in the test chamber and communicates with electronics to identify a percentage of carbon dioxide in the sample. A rigid cover surrounds the radiation source, the test chamber, and the sensor. A spacesuit is also disclosed.

An adsorbent system includes a passage and first and second adsorbents in the passage. The first adsorbent includes granules of non-impregnated activated carbon and the second adsorbent includes granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent. The granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent have, by weight, at least 20% acid or metal salt content. The granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent have, by weight, at least 35% acid or metal salt content. The granules of non-impregnated activated carbon and the granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent have a size of mesh 4 to mesh 40, and, by total combined weight of the granules of non-impregnated activated carbon and the granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent, the first adsorbent has 55%-75% of the granules of non-impregnated activated carbon and the second adsorbent has 45%-25% of the granules of acid- or metal salt-impregnated adsorbent.

A massaging surface contains alternating rows of massaging elements, each element includes three resilient arms extending radially and upwardly in symmetry from a common base point on that surface and terminating in massaging balls for delivering long stroke massage when pressed against a skin of a patient. The massaging surface allows for administering uniform massage over a large area including longitudinal and rotational strokes due to overlapping of massaging areas of individual adjacent massaging elements.

A massaging garment for a massage of a selected area of the wearer's body such as the lower back, the garment is activated by the natural movements of the wearer such as walking or running and comprises a belt covering a holding frame containing a plurality of rollers positioned over the massaging plate. The holding frame is reciprocally driven by a push-pull element attached to the thigh of the wearer while walking so that the rollers cause selective compression of the raised elements of the massaging plate and thus cause the desired massaging action over the wearer's body.

A massaging element for delivering a long stroke massage, the massaging element having at least one pair of symmetrical arc-shaped spring elements extending from a central driving component and having replaceable massaging units such as rollers at their free ends. A driving unit delivers reciprocating motions to the central driving component causing compressing and outward movements of the massaging units. A power or manually driven massager incorporates a plurality of the massaging elements for a wide area massage of the patient's body. The massager is easily foldable for storage or transport.
