A surgical connection device for a spine is disclosed including a stabilization member, compression arms and traction arms, the device being used in conjunction with first anchor points fixed to vertebrae at a first lateral side of the spine and second anchor points fixed to vertebrae at a second lateral side of the spine. A first spinal rod may be attached to the first anchor points and a second spinal rod may be attached to the second anchor points. The compression arms connect the stabilization member to the first and second anchor points or rods and bear compressive forces. The traction arms connect the stabilization member to the first and o second anchor points or rods and bear tensile forces. Application of both tensile and compressive forces via the device may serve to straighten, change a direction of bending or increase a degree of bending of the rods and/or spine. The use of the traction arms may also provide for a more flexible construct.

Spinal alignment and securement

The present disclosure relates to polyaxial bone screws and methods that enable the positioning of the polyaxial bone screws to be reliably determined using a surgical navigation system including a navigation probe. In an embodiment, a polyaxial bone screw comprises a threaded shaft inserted in bone and a head connected to the shaft, the head being rotatable relative to the shaft about a centre of rotation of the head of the bone screw. The position of a navigation probe is monitored using a navigation device. A first mating surface of the head of the bone screw is engaged with a second mating surface of the navigation probe; and the location of the centre of rotation of the head of the bone screw is determined based on the monitored position of the navigation probe when the first mating surface and the second mating surface are engaged.

A system for aiding surgery on a patient is described including a display device and a storage device that stores an image of at least a portion of the anatomy of the patient, including one or more surgical navigation markers positioned on the patient, for display on the display device. An analyser is adapted to receive positional data of a probe based on positioning of the probe relative to the one or more markers on the patient. Based on the positional data, the analyser outputs correctional data to adjust an alignment of the image on the display device to match locations of said one or more markers.

Spinal surgery navigation

A fiducial marker and method for use in the navigation of a surgical procedure is described. The fiducial marker includes a means to readily guide a navigation probe and includes an upper surface with a sloped guide surface for guiding the probe, the upper surface further including a substantially centrally positioned well to receive at least part of the probe. The guide surface may alternatively be configured to align with a complementary portion of part of the navigation probe.

An orthopedic bone rod reduction device and method is disclosed. The device includes an actuator having a drive surface and a bone rod engagement element for engaging with a bone rod. The assembly further includes a spring positioned between the drive surface of the actuator and the rod engagement element. The rod reduction assembly controls movement of a bone rod relative to a bone anchor positioned in a bone.

Rod reduction device

A system for aiding surgery on a patient is described including a display device and a storage device that stores an image of at least a portion of the anatomy of the patient, including one or more surgical navigation markers positioned on the patient, for display on the display device. An analyzer is adapted to receive positional data of a probe based on positioning of the probe relative to the one or more markers on the patient. Based on the positional data, the analyzer outputs correctional data to adjust an alignment of the image on the display device to match locations of said one or more markers.

A surgical connection device for a spine is disclosed including a stabilization member, compression arms and traction arms, the device being used in conjunction with first anchor points fixed to vertebrae at a first lateral side of the spine and second anchor points fixed to vertebrae at a second lateral side of the spine. A first spinal rod may be attached to the first anchor points and a second spinal rod may be attached to the second anchor points. The compression arms connect the stabilization member to the first and second anchor points or rods and bear compressive forces. The traction arms connect the stabilization member to the first and second anchor points or rods and bear tensile forces. Application of both tensile and compressive forces via the device may serve to straighten, change a direction of bending or increase a degree of bending of the rods and/or spine. The use of the traction arms may also provide for a more flexible construct.

A stiffening device useful for orthopedic stabilization assemblies. The present disclosure provides an apparatus and methods for stiffening the rods and screws typically used for correction of orthopedic defects, such as curvature of the spine. An out-of-plane stiffener is attached to the rods and screws in a plurality of locations, thus reducing the tendency of the rods to move. A stiffener is located in a plane posterior to the rods and screws. The stiffener connects to the rods with adjustable but rigid connections and prevents the rods from bending in the sagittal and coronal planes. This prevents rotation and twisting of the rods and thus the vertebrae into which they are implanted. The stiffeners of the present disclosure may also be attached to pedicle screws only. This helps to correct lordosis and kyphosis bending, as well as scoliosis-type bending. The stiffeners may also be used for cranial and facial applications.

Diverticulum treating device

Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for relocating a meniscus horn in a knee. The invention may be deployed during an arthroscopic procedure to apply external forces to a meniscus horn to pull the meniscus into a load bearing area of the knee, which may reduce contact stresses on articular cartilage in the knee and thereby ameliorate pain associated with an osteoarthritic joint. In one embodiment, the system includes a guide needle, suture thread, plug, elongate member, and bone anchor.

Meniscus horn relocation device and method

A bone marker device for use in surgery. The device has attachment means which is/are attachable to bone that will ultimately be resected during the surgery. A guiding device that is removably securable to the bone of a patient adjacent to the joint and on which the bone marker device may be mounted. A guide member of the guiding device has a slot for receiving a bone resector and enabling accurate resection of bone around the joint.

Image guided surgery

A golf club or implement comprising a grip region (), a head (), and a shaft () connecting the grip region () to the head (). A fairing () is attachable to a trailing edge of the shaft (). The fairing can reduce drag associated with the shaft () during a swing motion of the club or implement. The fairing can, on attachment, extend along a portion of the shaft () from a location proximal the head () of the club or implement.
