A one-time use camera comprising a filmstrip having successive frames including first- and last-to-be-exposed frames and a pre-exposure frame immediately preceding the first-to-be-exposed frame, a backframe opening at which the respective frames of the filmstrip beginning with the first-to-be exposed frame and ending with the last-to-be-exposed frame are exposed during picture-taking, a film cartridge which contains a film take-up spool that is manually rotated decreasing angles of rotation to wind the respective frames of the filmstrip beginning with the pre-exposure frame from the backframe opening onto said spool, and an exposure-related component that must be enabled in order to operate, is characterized in that a rotation-sensing detector for sensing rotation of the spool is connected with the exposure-related component to enable the exposure-related component when the spool is rotated an angle of rotation no greater than an angle sufficient to wind the last-to-be exposed frame onto the spool, whereby the exposure-related component can be enabled each time the spool is rotated to wind one of the frames of the filmstrip onto the spool.

An intermediate storage unit for use with electronic film of the type having a body in the shape of a film cartridge and a tab, extending from the body and bearing an image sensor adapted to be located in the film plane of a conventional photographic camera and having electrical contacts for interfacing the electronic film with another electronic device, such as a computer. The intermediate storage unit includes a data connector for connecting to the electrical contacts on the tab of the electronic film and a communication interface connected to the data connector. A non-volatile semiconductor memory capable of storing at least twice as many images as the electronic film is provided in the storage unit. A microcontroller connected to communication interface and the non-volatile memory controls the transfer of data from the electronic film to the non-volatile memory.

A gear shifting system for a human-powered chain- or belt-driven vehicle includes a wheel speed sensor, a cadence sensor, a gear changer position sensor, a tension sensor, a clinometer, a controller and a gear changer actuator. The wheel speed sensor senses a speed of a wheel, while the cadence sensor senses a drive rate that a torque drive member drives a torque-transmitting member. The gear changer position sensor senses a position of a gear changer that positions the torque-transmitting member with respect to a plurality of gears. The tension sensor senses a tension of the torque-transmitting member that is transmitting a torque applied to the torque-transmitting drive member to a gear. The clinometer senses an inclination of the vehicle. The controller generates a control signal based on the sensed wheel speed, the sensed torque-member drive rate, the sensed torque-transmitting member tension, the sensed vehicle inclination and the sensed gear changer position. The gear changer actuator is coupled to the gear changer and moves the gear changer in response to the control signal by positioning the torque-transmitting member with respect to the plurality of gears.
