Methods for enhancing recovery after an ischemic injury, including cerebral ischemia and stroke, by administration of therapeutic amounts of Domain V protein are described.

Compositions and methods for enhancing neuro-repair

The presently-disclosed subject matter provides methods for preventing ischemia in a cell, treating ischemia in a subject, and preventing an infarction in a subject that utilize &#x3b1;5&#x3b2;1 integrin inhibitor. In some instances, &#x3b1;5&#x3b2;1 integrin inhibitor is administered to a subject prior to, during, or after the onset of ischemia to treat the ischemia and/or prevent infarction. In some instances the present methods prevent the occurrence of an infarction. In some instances the present methods restores perfusion to organs and tissues.

Compositions and methods for treating ischemia

The application reports that perlecan domain V (DV) or the LG3 domain thereof reduces deposition and toxicity of A&#x3b2; peptide, the major component of plaques in Alzheimer's disease. Methods of using DV, LG3 and related molecules in treatment of amyloidogenic diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, are provided.

Use of perlecan domain V in treating amyloidogenic disease

The disclosed invention relates to the use of perlecan domain V (DV) for the treatment of stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI) or spinal cord injuries (SCI). In certain embodiments, fusion proteins of DV can be used for the treatment of stroke, TBI or SCI. DV is also referred to as endorepellin in the art. This application also provides compositions and combination therapies for the treatment of stroke, TCI and/or SCI. Another aspect of the invention provides methods of restoring motor function in subjects having neurological damage arising from a stroke, TBI or SCI.

Perlecan domain V protects, repairs and restores ischemic brain stroke injury and motor function

The present invention is drawn to methods of stimulating or enhancing angiogenesis in a patient comprising, administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of an endorepellin protein, wherein said endorepellin protein has an amino acid sequence of domain V of perlecan or fragments or derivatives, analogs thereof; and stimulating or enhancing generation of blood vessels. The present invention is drawn to compositions for enhancing angiogenesis.
