A medical device providing a combination of thermal and DVT therapies to a patient. The components, arrangement of components, function of the device as a whole, and methods of use of the device are all devised to maximize therapeutic effectiveness. Effectiveness in this context is measured by the ability to provide a controlled application of the recommended thermal treatment including time, temperature, compression, and number of cycles with specified cycle duration.

System and method for heat or cold therapy and compression therapy

Systems and methods directed to the art of therapeutic thermal compression are provided. A therapeutic device capable of providing various therapeutic stimuli, including thermal energy transfer and applied pressure. The therapeutic device has a heating/cooling system, a temperature moderating system, a compression system, and a control system which controls the amount of pressure applied, the degree of temperature applied, and the duration of each application of therapeutic stimuli.

Therapeutic thermal compression device

A piston for a two-stroke direct fuel injection internal combustion engine coupled to drive a marine propulsion unit is provided. The piston has a generally cylindrical body with one or more grooves formed therein. Each groove defines an opening to receive a respective piston ring. A thermal-protection coating is applied by anodizing the interior of the grooves. The respective region of the piston cylindrical body surrounding the respective groove openings is free of the coating.

A fuel injected, internal combustion engine that is protected from detrimental ignition due to pocket sparking. The engine includes one or more cylinders into which fuel is injected by an injector. A spark plug is used to ignite the fuel-air mixture within the cylinder. The spark plug is designed with a base and a shell extending from the base to define a hollow interior. A central electrode is disposed in an insulative core and extends through the hollow interior of the shell. The shell is connected to a secondary electrode. A gap is formed between the electrodes for promulgation of a spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture. The detrimental effects of pocket sparking are eliminated by placing a closure member between a terminal end of the shell and the nose of the insulative core. This closure member may be in the form of a lip that extends from the shell into proximity with the nose of the insulative core.

System and method for eliminating pocket sparking in an internal combustion engine

The present invention, in one aspect, includes a probe for sensing exhaust gas pressure in an exhaust path of a marine engine during engine operation. In an exemplary embodiment, the probe includes an elongate probe body and an engine engagement assembly secured to the probe body and configured to engage to the engine so that said probe body at least partially extends into the engine exhaust path. The probe body comprises a hollow, cylindrical shaped member, and at least one opening extends through a side wall of the cylindrical shaped member. A cap is secured to and closes an open end of the probe cylindrical shaped member, and a pellet is located, i.e., trapped, within the cylindrical shaped member. The engine engagement assembly includes a threaded portion sized to be threadedly engaged within an opening in flow communication with the engine exhaust path, and a tube connection portion sized to be inserted within a tube.

Engine control apparatus and methods for avoiding heavy soot production yet providing smooth engine acceleration and deceleration without significant engine RPM increases and decreases with small throttle movements are described. In one embodiment, once the fuel injection angle reaches the angle at which soot formation begins, one or more cylinders are controlled to operate with later injection angles and lower fueling, which results in lower torque production and lower soot formation, while at the same time the remaining cylinders are set to operate with advanced injection angles and higher fueling, which results in a homogenous mixture of air and fuel, higher torque, and also lower soot formation. Therefore, for a first range of throttle positions, all cylinders operate in the stratified combustion mode. When the soot zone is reached, as determined based on throttle position, then some or at least one of the cylinders operate in the homogenous combustion mode and some or at least one of the cylinders operate in the stratified combustion mode. Once all the cylinders have skipped over the soot zone injection angle, then all the cylinders operate in the homogenous combustion mode.

Methods and apparatus for controlling engine operation

An internal combustion engine assembly including an internal combustion engine including an engine block having at lest one cylinder, a piston mounted within the cylinder for reciprocal movement in the cylinder, a fuel injector for injecting fuel into the cylinder, the fuel injector initiating a fuel injection event at a predetermined time and a circuit for generating a spark in the cylinder a predetermined amount of time after the injection event to cause combustion of fuel in the cylinder.

Method of operating a fuel injected engine

A cylinder block for an internal combustion engine includes a mounting surface having therein a crankcase cavity and a pair of cylinders respectively extending from the cavity in acute angular relation to each other and each including a cylinder wall. The cylinder walls include outer ends having cylinder head mounting surfaces, mixture transfer ports, mixture supply ports, gas discharge ports and a main exhaust gas discharge passage. A passage communicates between the exhaust gas discharge ports and with the main exhaust gas discharge passage. Mixture supply passages extend between the mounting surface and the cylinder head mounting surfaces and include reed valves. Branch passages communicate between the transfer ports in the cylinder walls and the mixture supply passages at respective locations between the cylinder head mounting surfaces and the reed valves. Auxiliary supply passages extend from the mounting surface and communicate with the mixture supply ports in the cylinder walls.

Disclosed herein is a fuel pump comprising a housing including therein a high pressure fuel chamber, a fuel outlet valve communicating with the high pressure fuel chamber and being operable to prevent fuel inflow and to permit fuel outflow when the fuel pressure is above a predetermined level, a fuel inlet valve communicating with the high pressure chamber and being operable to prevent fuel outflow and to permit fuel inflow, and a bearing bore extending from the high pressure chamber, a rod slideably and sealingly supported in the bearing bore for movement relative to a retracted position, and structure located in the housing for displacing the rod from the retracted position and in the direction toward the high pressure fuel chamber through an initial stroke length without encountering substantial resistance and thereafter displacing the rod through a subsequent stroke length which is effective to highly pressurize the fuel in the high pressure fuel chamber.

A lubricant supply system for a two-stroke internal combustion engine, which system includes first and second adjacently located and substantially sealed crankcase chambers which alternately experience high and low pressure conditions which are out of phase with respect to the occurrence thereof, first and second oil supply passages respectively communicating with the first and second crankcase chambers, an oil supply circuit including an oil supply chamber adapted to contain oil and having therein a formation including therein a recess isolated from the oil supply chamber and communicating with the first and second oil supply passages, a metering rod including therein an indentation and supported in the oil supply chamber for movement in the formation between a first position wherein the indentation is located in the oil chamber, thereby affording filling of the indentation with oil, and a second position wherein the indentation is located in the formation in communication with the recess, thereby affording supplying of the oil in the indentation to the sealed crankcase chambers, and a mechanism for effecting movement of the oil metering rod between the first and second positions.
