A surgical device for clipping tissue is disclosed. The surgical device comprises a housing, a shaft extending from the housing, and a first reload releasably attachable to the shaft. The first reload comprises a first end effector and a first clip magazine including a plurality of first clips. The surgical device further comprises a second reload releasably attachable to the shaft when the first reload is not attached to the shaft. The first reload and the second reload are different sizes. The second reload comprises a second end effector and a second clip magazine including a plurality of second clips.

A staple cartridge including a tissue supporting deck and a set of arbor inserts removably coupled to the deck adjacent a staple pocket, the staple pocket being configured to hold a staple. The set of arbor inserts is configured to plastically deform the staple as the staple exits the staple pocket during a firing stroke.

A surgical stapler includes a first elongate member, a second elongate member, and a clamp member operable to releasably clamp the first elongate member against the second elongate member. A firing assembly of the surgical stapler is translatable from a first longitudinal position to a second longitudinal position to fire the staple cartridge when the first elongate member is clamped against the second elongate member. A retaining assembly of the surgical stapler includes a first retaining member configured to releasably couple a proximal end of the first elongate member with a proximal end of the second elongate member, and a second retaining member configured to releasably retain the firing assembly in the first longitudinal position.

The disclosed technology includes a surgical instrument that may include a hollow housing, a trigger, and a particulate skirt. The hollow housing may include a first shell and a second shell that form an actuating mechanism space therebetween. The hollow housing may also include a handle portion and a first opening that can be formed at a first interface point of the first shell and the second shell. The trigger may extend from the first opening of the hollow housing. The particulate skirt may be configured to capture particulate from the actuating mechanism space and prevent the particulate from exiting the housing through the first opening. The particulate skirt may include a trigger aperture that can be sized and shaped to accept at least a portion of the trigger therethrough.

A surgical stapling instrument includes a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a flexible firing member. The end effector includes a driving assembly translatable distally relative to a first jaw and a second jaw to thereby transition the first and second jaws from an open state to a closed state. The flexible firing member is configured to selectively advance the driving assembly distally and retract the driving assembly proximally. The flexible firing member includes a plurality of segments, at least one axial force transmission feature configured to transmit axial forces between the segments, and at least one lateral alignment feature configured to resist lateral misalignment of the segments.

A method of surgical stapling uses a surgical instrument operable to compress, staple, and cut tissue. The instrument includes a body, a shaft, and an end effector with a pair of jaws. A placement tip extends distally from one of the jaws of the end effector. The placement tip is elastically deformable when the placement tip is subject to a clamping force. In some instances the placement tip includes an arcuate bend, while in other instances the placement tip is straight. The placement tip can have a variety of non-rectangular lateral cross-sectional shapes. In some instances, the placement tip is made of a material of a specified durometer range and having a high color contrast. A distal end of the placement tip may change position based on the state of deflection of the placement tip in response to the clamping force.

A surgical instrument comprising an end effector, a closure tube, an articulation joint, an articulation driver, and an articulation lock is disclosed. The articulation driver is to rotate the end effector about the articulation joint and comprises first teeth. The articulation lock comprises a cam surface and second teeth, and the articulation lock is rotatable relative to the articulation driver between a first position, where the second teeth are demeshed from the first teeth and the articulation driver is permitted to rotate the end effector about the articulation joint, and a second position, where the second teeth are meshed with the first teeth and the articulation driver is prevented from rotating the end effector about the articulation joint. The cam is to engage the cam surface of the articulation lock and rotate the articulation lock toward the second position based on the closure tube moving toward a distal position.

In general, interconnection of drug administration systems is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a drug administration device and a remotely located server can establish a unique key for wireless communication between the device and the server. The drug administration device can be configured to sense information relating to at least one of the device and a drug and can be configured to anonymize data indicative of the sensed information using the key stored in memory of the device. The drug administration device can also be configured to use the key in decrypting data received from the server.

The end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw rotatable relative to the first jaw between an open position and a closed position. The force sensor is to measure a parameter indicative of the closure force. The control circuit is to receive an output of the force sensor indicative of the parameter and set a velocity of the closure driver based on the received output and a force threshold.

A surgical stapler includes a first elongate member having a distal portion that supports an anvil surface, and a second elongate member having a distal portion configured to receive a staple cartridge. The stapler further includes a pin rotatably coupled with the first elongate member, and a clamp member movably coupled with the second elongate member. The clamp member is operable to releasably capture the pin to thereby clamp the first elongate member against the second elongate member. The pin is configured to rotate relative to the first elongate member in response to being captured by the clamp member.

A surgical instrument includes a sled and an end effector. The end effector includes a first jaw, a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw, an anvil, and a cartridge channel. The staple cartridge includes a proximal end, a distal end, a cartridge body, and staples supported in the cartridge body, wherein the sled is movable to deploy the staples from the cartridge body against tissue captured between the staple cartridge and the anvil. The cartridge channel is configured to removably retain the staple cartridge, wherein a load is required to remove the staple cartridge from the cartridge channel, and wherein the sled is configured to reduce the cartridge removal load.
