A system transmits data, which includes a plurality of data types, over a plurality of communication paths. The system determines which of the plurality of communication paths are available for transmitting the data. The system then determines at least one desired quality of service characteristic for each of the data tapes. Finally, the system selects at least one of the available communication paths for transmitting each of the data types by matching the desired quality of service characteristics to the available communication paths.

A system and method for a secure cached subscription system is described. In one embodiment, the system comprises a content provider and a caching device connected to the content provider. The content provider speculatively downloads information into the caching device based upon a user's data. A processing device is connected via a high-bandwidth connection to the caching device for processing the information.

A method and apparatus for providing remote, distributed processing of a task by employing a wide area network (e.g., the Internet). A resource provider initiates the process by sending an application to a resource allocator requesting to be added to the resource allocator's list of providers. Upon receiving a task, the resource provider evaluates the currently available local resources. The resource provider determines whether or not it is currently able to handle the task in view of the available local resources. If the resource provider is able to handle the task, it accepts the task. The resource provider processes the task and returns the results to either the resource allocator or the original resource requester. If the resource provider is unable to handle the task in view of the current load, the resource provider notifies the resource allocator or the resource requester that it is unable to complete the task.

The present invention relates to an electronic system and its corresponding method of determining the attributes of a Web page without downloading the Web page.
