A microwave device includes a circuit board having a microstrip layer, a ground plane, and a dielectric layer therebetween. The circuit board has a shield receiving slot for longitudinally receiving the end of a shield conductor of a coaxial cable. The coaxial cable also has an inner conductor having an end that extends longitudinally outwardly from the end of the shield conductor. The microstrip layer has an inner conductor contact adjacent the shield receiving slot that connects to the end of the inner conductor. The device may include a conductive layer in the shield receiving slot to connect to the ground plane. The shield receiving slot may have a T shape and extend through the circuit board. The device may include a mounting fixture connecting an end of the shield conductor to the circuit board.

Microwave device having a slotted coaxial cable-to-microstrip connection and related methods

A novel system and method for a frequency tunable filter is described. The inventive system and method may be used, for example, in multi-band cellular phones and/or transceivers in wireless networks. The inventive system and method avoids the creation of undesired spurs thus minimizing design difficulties and obviating the need for complex multiple frequency conversions and the associated deleterious effects on performance. The inventive system and method provides at an output terminal an output signal at one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies. The inventive system and method comprises input circuitry for providing an input signal that is at least in part a function of a dynamic parameter, a processor for providing a control signal as a function of said input signal, and at least one adjustable resonance circuit capable of providing a filter signal at one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies in response to said control signal, wherein said filter signal is applied to said output terminal to thereby provide said output signal at one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies. The present inventive system and method also provides for reducing spurious signals from a composite signal created from mixing a plurality of signals by filtering the composite signal.

System and method for an electronically tunable frequency filter having constant bandwidth and temperature compensation for center frequency, bandwidth and insertion loss

A system and method for a novel microwave coaxial resonator oscillator using a &#x215d;ths wavelength resonator is described. The novel system and method provides a coaxial resonator for operation at high frequencies comprising a conductive resonator and a coaxial conductive outer shell electrically connected by an conductive end member, wherein the conductive resonator and outer shell are of a length approximately equal to (1/8+n/2) of the wavelength of the desired frequency, where n is a positive integer. The novel system and method provides a low noise oscillator for operation at high frequencies and reduces oscillator phase noise in high Q implementations. The novel system and method also provides for reducing the aspect ratio of a 1/8 wavelength coaxial resonator by increasing in a stepwise manner the length of the coaxial resonator by n/2 wavelengths of the resonator frequency, where n is a positive integer. Furthermore, the novel system and method provides for reducing higher order modes in a 1/m wavelength coaxial resonator, operating at a high frequency, by increasing in a stepwise manner the length of the 1/m wavelength coaxial resonator by n/2 wavelengths of the resonator frequency, where n and m are positive integers.

A broad band phase shifter of the present invention can be used in a microstrip conductor and includes a power divider disposed along a microstrip conductor. The power divider has first and second outputs. A reference transmission line is disposed on the microstrip conductor and connected to the first output of the power divider. A phase shift filter device is disposed on the microstrip conductor and connected to the second output of the power divider. The phase shift filter device comprises a 180 degree phase shift coupled line structure formed of a first substantially linear 90 degree phase shift parallel line section, and a second substantially linear 90 degree phase shift parallel line section coupled to the first parallel. line section. The first and second 90 degree phase shift parallel line sections have parallel lines that are spaced about five mils apart. The first and second 90 degree phase shift parallel line sections also have parallel lines that are offset to each other.

An antenna and method of minimizing capacitive effects of a capacitive body on a loop antenna. The antenna includes a loop antenna, a drive circuit for driving a current through the loop antenna, matching means for matching the impedance of the drive circuit and the loop antenna and a housing for carrying the loop antenna, drive circuit and matching means. The loop antenna is formed from a band of conductive material such that the flat sides of the band are normal to the plane of the loop. The loop antenna is carried by the housing when the housing is carried by a human body with its flat sides normal to the human body and its edges parallel to the human body. The orientation of the loop antenna relative to the human body minimizes the capacitive effect of the human body on the loop antenna and thus decreases the impedance to the flow of current through the loop antenna.
