A system and method are described for self-diagnosing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The system and method correlate an HVAC control mode of a particular HVAC unit with an energy usage for the particular HVAC unit in order to match normal patterns in energy usage with the HVAC control mode. This correlation allows the system and method to identify potential problems with the particular HVAC unit based on deviations from normal patterns.

Method of auto association of HVAC energy with control signal for self diagnostics of the HVAC system

A system for controlling an HVAC system and for monitoring energy usage at a premises is described. The system includes an energy meter at a electrical distribution panel, where the energy meter connected to one or more current transformers monitoring the current in one or more input lines and load lines and collecting current information for each of the monitored lines. The energy meter is further including a wireless radio to transmit the current information. An intelligent thermostat is operable to control the HVAC system at the premises according to environmental data sensed by the intelligent thermostat, and to receive the current information from the energy meter and to transmit the current information to a remote server for processing. A remote server is operable to process the current information from the energy meter by applying a scaling factor to the current information to determine energy usage.

Wirelessly connected thermostat with flexible and scalable energy reporting

A networking thermostat is described that includes a main processor and a communications processor. The main processor includes a network manager function, a master messaging function and a slave messaging function while the communications processor includes a wireless radio enabling the thermostat to communicate with other networking thermostats. The networking thermostat is able to operate in a master mode or a slave mode, where the master mode allows the networking thermostat to act as a main gateway between other networking thermostats and a remote server. When in the master mode the networking thermostat can default to a slave if communication with the remote server is lost, thereby allowing one of the other networking thermostats to become a master.

A method and apparatus are provided for monitoring and adjusting angular speed or rotational frequency of a fan as well as wear. As a result of being able to monitor the angular speed or rotational frequency of a fan, a prediction of both wear and failure can be made. Due largely to increasing internal friction related to the amount of wear, the energy required to operate a fan at a given angular speed or rotational frequency varies. Hence, an algorithm and certain devices can be employed to make wear and failure predictions of either an mechanical or electrical fan based on energy consumption relative to an angular speed or rotational frequency.

Disclosed is an apparatus for generating two constant width and symmetrical drive signals from two separate, but complementary, pulse width modulated control signals while also generating two pulse width modulated drive signals corresponding to said pulse width modulated control signals. The constant width drive signals are generated through the use of a toggle or latch set/reset circuit actuated by a given characteristic of each of the control signals.

Disclosed is an apparatus that equally distributes current from a rectifier circuit to a plurality of power factor correction circuit units by equal current magnitudes and lower component count advantages of peak current sensing with the lower harmonic distortion advantages of average current sensing. The outer surface of the handle and an associated latch may be flush with the other outer surfaces when the door is closed or the container is fully inserted in the enclosure. When the handle is in an unlatched condition, a spring mechanism is used to encourage the handle toward a fully open position for ease in using a finger pull for extracting or otherwise handling the object to which the handle is attached.

Disclosed is a DC/DC converter apparatus comprising a full bridge non-resonant pulse-width-modulated (PWM) switching circuit, which includes inductive device(s), clamp diodes, and an output transformer rectifier and filter circuit. Capacitive and diode elements associated with bridge switching devices operate to switch current through the switches at substantially zero voltage (ZVS). The inductor element and clamp diodes are used to reduce the primary transition shoot through current resulting from reverse recovery of the transformer secondary rectification stage while also reducing emi and semiconductor stresses.
