A Time and Frequency Division (TaFD) scheduler based on a TaFD allocation unit based credit allocation may schedule both time and frequency division for both legacy Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) channels and DOCSIS orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) channels. In embodiments, scheduling by the TaFD schedules both single carrier quadrature amplitude modulation (SC-QAM) transmissions and OFDMA upstream transmissions. In embodiments, the scheduler schedules based on TaFD allocation unit based credit allocations, where TaFD allocation unit based credits may be allocated for OFDMA overlapped regions. The credits may be dynamically adjusted based on channel utilization and an outstanding bandwidth demand or a prioritized pending bandwidth demand. The TaFD scheduler may use independent hierarchy priority queuing schemes.

Allocation and scheduling for time and frequency division multiplexing system

Methods, systems, and apparatuses operate to adjust transmission power of a customer premise equipment device using a transmit channel set parameter. Power characteristics associated with a received signal from a customer premise equipment device can be identified, and a determination is made whether to adjust a transmission power associated with transmission of the signal. Based upon the determination, an adjustment can be made to the transmission power using a transmit channel set parameter, thereby adjusting the channels used by the customer premise equipment device to transmit the signal.

Systems and methods can be operable to provide subscription service level based channel assignment for network devices. In some implementations, such systems and methods can operate to create service flow list for use in assigning channels to CPE devices (e.g., modems, eMTAs, STBs, etc.). Such systems and methods can assist in assigning CPE devices to channels that correspond to their subscribed service level, thereby facilitating delivery of the proper level of service.

Systems and methods can operate to detect and avoid optical beat interference (OBI) in broadband devices by use of restrictive channel assignment. An OBI-mitigating mapper algorithm can leash OBI candidates in a circular queue to avoid scheduling service flows likely to result in OBI generation. In some implementations, the algorithm can automatically leash all pre-DOCSIS 3.0 service flows. In alternative implementations, the algorithm can allow the CMTS to normally load balance pre-DOCSIS 3.0 devices while manually adding and/or removing pre-DOCSIS 3.0 service flows from the OBI candidate queue based upon lost transmissions or a designated age-out timer.
