A bone fracture fixation system including a bone plate having a contour that substantially matches the contour of an underlying bone. The bone fracture fixation system can also include a jig that can be moved relative to non-parallel cannulas guided by the jig into operative position relative to a bone plate. In one embodiment, the jig includes grooves which do not completely surround the perimeter of the cannulas guided by the jig. The bone fracture fixation system can also include a jig including guides having a position and orientation which is adjustable relative to other ones of the guides. In one embodiment, the jig includes two portions that can articulate with respect to each other. The bone fracture fixation system can also include a wire bender that can bend a wire greater than 180 degrees so that both ends of the wire can be inserted into a fractured bone.

Bone fracture fixation system

An orthopaedic bone plate is coupled to a bone having an enlarged head at one end thereof which is attached to a shaft. The bone plate includes an elongate portion, a flared portion and an intermediate portion. The elongate portion is attachable to the bone shaft using a plurality of bone screws. The elongate portion generally defines a longitudinal axis. The flared portion is attachable to the bone head using at least one bone screw. The intermediate portion interconnects the elongate portion and the flared portion. The intermediate portion is structured and arranged to allow the elongate portion and the flared portion to move relative to each other in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis when the elongate portion and the flared portion are attached to the bone.

Orthopaedic bone plate

A blade plate, as well as instruments and methods for securing the blade plate to a bone to reduce a bone fracture. The blade plate includes a plate portion and a blade portion extending at an angle relative to the plate portion. The plate portion includes a plurality of holes for receipt of bone screws for securing the blade plate to the bone about the bone fracture. A strut screw, inserted through a hole in the plate portion, spans the angle between the plate and blade portions, and threadingly engages a hole in the blade portion to slightly draw the plate and blade portions together to compress and support the bone fracture. A pair of top screws are inserted through holes in the plate portion at angles with respect to the strut screw on either side of the strut screw. Additionally, the blade plate is designed to closely conform to the surface of the bone to minimize the gap between the bone and the blade plate. In order to secure the blade plate to a bone, a chisel/drill guide, chisel, insertion guide, and screw drill guides are provided.

The invention is directed to an external fixator assembly for externally fixating and stabilizing a bone. The external fixator assembly includes a frame member; a bone piercing member insertable into the bone; and a clamp. The clamp includes a body with a slot, a hole, and a threaded opening therein. The threaded opening is in communication with the slot. The bone piercing member is received within the hole. The frame member is disposed within the slot. The clamp further includes a set screw in the threaded opening. The set screw is engaged with the frame member and holds the frame member within the slot.

External fixator assembly and clamp therefor

The invention is directed to a retainer (10, 12, 70) for securing a sponge (16) at the point of entry for an orthopaedic elongate member (14). The retainer (10, 12, 70) is removably attachable to the elongate member (14) adjacent the sponge. The retainer, in one embodiment, includes a body (22) having a bottom (24) and a side (26), with the side (26) being disposed adjacent to the bottom (24). The body (22) further includes an opening (34) associated with each of the bottom (24) and the side (26). The opening (34) is configured for receiving the elongate member (14) therein. A clamp (40) is movably attached to the body (22) and engageable with the elongate member (14) for retaining the elongate member (14) within the opening (34). A resilient member (50) is integral or engaged with the clamp (40) for biasing the clamp (40) into engagement with the elongate member (14).

The invention is directed to an apparatus for externally reducing and/or fixating a fracture in a bone. The apparatus includes a radiolucent rod, and a carriage assembly with a clamp assembly for connection to a fixation pin. A sleeve is threadingly connected with the carriage assembly and is disposed about the rod. A clamping device interconnects the sleeve with the rod at a selective one of a plurality of locations along a length of the rod. Rotation of the sleeve relative to the carriage assembly moves the rod in an axial direction relative to the carriage assembly.

An external fixation apparatus 2 that allows the transfixation wire 10 to be secured at a plurality of discrete positions to provide adjustability of the angular orientation of the wire with respect to the plane of a frame ring 6. The fixation apparatus 2 includes a transfixation wire or pin 10 that is connected between a transmitting clamp 20 and a receiving clamp 40 that are shiftably carried atop of a partial frame ring 6. A wire retainer 50 is secured to the distal end 14 of the transfixation wire. The receiving clamp 40 includes a raised member 46 adapted for receiving distal end 14 of wire 10 and mating with retainer 50 at a variety of discrete positions along the length of raised member 46. Retainer 50 uses two screws 54, 56 to secure distal end 14 of wire 10 within a longitudinal through bore 51. Screw 54 extends into longitudinal bore 51 to engage wire 10 near the proximal end of retainer 50. Screw 56 extends into longitudinal bore 51 and bends the distal end 14 of wire 10 downward within a slot 53 defined along longitudinal bore 51 at the distal end of retainer 50. Bending the distal end 14 of wire 10 within retainer 50 improves the connection between wire 10 and retainer 50.
