Systems and methods for offering base band voice telephony while using derived voice over data technology such as VoATM or VoIP are disclosed. The system may generally comprise a derived voice over data termination device located outside of the client premise and a connection between the client premise and the derived voice over data termination device, where the connection between the client premise and the derived voice over data termination device is a base-band analog voice loop. The derived voice over data termination device is configured to convert between base band signals and derived voice over data signals utilizing derived voice over data technology. The method generally comprises providing a derived voice over data termination device in a wire center, providing a base band connection between the client telephone and the derived voice over data termination device, transmitting base-band analog signals between the client telephone and the derived voice over data termination device, and transmitting derived voice over data signals between the derived voice over data termination device and a voice gateway connected to a public switched telephone network.

System and method for providing base band voice telephony using derived voice over data technology

A method and system for provisioning remote user data access over digital subscriber lines (DSL's) through connection-oriented packet networks is described. According to a preferred embodiment, DSL terminal units are directed to train at a rate that is not substantially greater than the subscribed data rate, thereby avoiding network congestion due to data rate mismatches between the DSL connection and a corresponding permanent virtual circuit (PVC) channel through the connection-oriented packet network. According to another preferred embodiment, the DSL units are directed to test for the maximum trainable data rate before settling to the subscribed data rate, and to communicate this information to a network operations center computer, thereby allowing the maximum allowable DSL data rate to be compared to actual client traffic usage patterns and to the client's subscribed data rate. According to another preferred embodiment, in the event that the maximum trainable rate lies substantially below the subscribed data rate, the network operations center automatically re-provisions the permanent virtual circuit (PVC) channel through the connection-oriented packet network to a corresponding lower level, thereby conserving network resources.

Method and system for reducing congestion in connection-oriented packet networks having digital subscriber line access

Systems and methods for providing broadband content to high-speed access subscribers with layer,-,switching are disclosed. The system generally comprises an enhanced services complex (ESC) having at least one content server having Internet content stored or cached therein and a broadband access gateway (BAG) in communication with the ESC and to at least one Internet service provider (ISP), where the BAG is configured to transmit and receive data traffic to and from a client premise equipment (CPE) at a client premise, respectively. The BAG is configured to selectively route data traffic received from the CPE to an ESC content server or the ISP based on multiple instances of the content destination address. The method generally comprises routing client data packets from a CPE to a BAG in communication with at least one ISP and an ESC having at least one content server, selectively routing each client data packet from the BAG to the ESC or the Internet, and routing content data packets from the Internet content or the content server to the CPE.
