The disclosed invention is embodied in an improved LED-based lighting fixture for projecting a beam of light having a substantially uniform intensity, rotationally, and a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity. The lighting fixture includes (1) a concave reflector having circumferential facets, a focal region, an aperture, and a central opening; and (2) a light source assembly including two or more groups of LEDs mounted at the forward end of an elongated, thermally conductive support. The light source assembly is mounted relative to the reflector with the elongated support's longitudinal axis aligned with the reflector's longitudinal axis and with the groups of LEDs located at or near the reflector's focal region. Each of the two or more groups of LEDs includes a plurality of LEDs arranged in a specific pattern such that they cooperate with the faceted concave reflector to project a beam of light having a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity.

The disclosed invention is embodied in an improved LED-based lighting fixture for projecting a beam of light having a substantially uniform intensity, rotationally, and a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity. The lighting fixture includes (1) a concave reflector having circumferential facets, a focal region, an aperture, and a central opening; and (2) a light source assembly including two or more groups of LEDs mounted at the forward end of an elongated, thermally conductive support. The light source assembly is mounted relative to the reflector with the elongated support's longitudinal axis aligned with the reflector's longitudinal axis and with the groups of LEDs located at or near the reflector's focal region. Each of the two or more groups of LEDs includes a plurality of LEDs arranged in two or more columns substantially parallel with the light source axis, with each column including only LEDs configured to emit light in a limited range of the visible spectrum and having the same distinct dominant wavelength, and with each group of LEDs including LEDs configured to emit light in two or more dominant wavelengths. The two or more groups of LEDs are configured to cooperate with the faceted concave reflector to project a beam of light having a selectable, substantially uniform chromaticity.

A theatrical luminaire for entertainment and architectural applications includes a lamp socket accessible from the exterior of the luminaire housing. A lamp includes a base, a bulb on one side of the base and a handle on the other side. The handle is grasped to insert the lamp into the socket. When the base is mounted in the socket, the bulb extends through the socket into the luminaire and the handle remains accessible at the exterior of the luminaire. The lamp is mounted with a one-handed push and turn motion, and contacts on wings of the base engage socket contacts as the lamp is turned to its final position. The socket is mounted on a support that is adjustable relative to the luminaire housing to preserve the correct lamp positioning when the lamp is replaced.

Lamp

A lighting fixture configured to image a high-intensity beam of light at a distant location with a variable beam spread and a variable image distance. The lighting fixture includes an illuminator mounted on a front projection system. The illuminator includes an elliptical reflector defining two focal points. A lamp is at one of the reflector's focal points, while an aperture of the front projection system is at the reflector's other focal point. The front projection system includes a tubular housing having shutter blades moveably positionable in the aperture to obstruct light passing through the second focal point. A rear lens receives and transmits light emitted by the illuminator, while a front lens is configured to receive light transmitted by the first lens and project it at the distant location. The lenses are contained within the housing. A positioning mechanism is mounted on the housing, and includes a rack and pinion gear device that adjusts the distance between the front and rear lenses in response to the rotation of an actuator. The actuator is configured to slide along a slot in the housing, controlling the translation of the first and second lenses with respect to the illuminator. The actuator is configured with a shielding baffle that covers the slot, and with field angle indicia labeling the actuator with beam spread settings. The actuator is further configured with a locking cam lever that constrains the actuator from being moved with respect to the housing when the locking cam lever is in a locked position.

An improved plug-in power module for providing a controlled amount of electrical power to one or more remote lighting fixtures or other load is disclosed, the module being configured to sense a ground fault or other current imbalance at the load and, in response, both to trigger the module's circuit breaker to open and to report the occurrence of such a ground fault to a central location. The power module achieves these important functions without adding unduly to the module's complexity or size.

An improved lighting fixture is disclosed for imaging a high-intensity beam of light at a distant location. A specially-faceted near-elliptical reflector cooperates with a gate aperture and a single aspheric lens to produce a beam that incorporates a very high proportion of emitted visible light, while the reflector has a dichroic coating that reflects only a low proportion of infrared light. The projected beam thereby has a relatively low energy density, such that the front portion of the fixture can be reduced substantially in size and weight. The gate is selectively rotatable relative to the fixture's rear housing.

Lighting fixture

A plug-in dimmer module for providing controlled power to one or more lighting fixtures or groups of fixtures. The dimmer module includes a housing with one or more circuit breakers located at one end, a power device with one or more dimmer circuits located at an opposite end, and one or more toroidal chokes located in a middle section. The power device includes built-in contacts for output power to the lighting fixture(s) and for control and sensor signals, and the dimmer module is adapted to plug directly into a slot in a rack, to engage the contacts. The components of the dimmer module are laid out efficiently within the housing, with minimal wastage of space and without the need for extraneous electrical conductors.

A dimmer rack for mounting a plurality of modular units called dimmer modules is disclosed. Each of the modules is used to provide dimming control for each lighting circuit in a lighting system. The rack is a vertical enclosure and utilizes a plurality of modular shelving elements attached to the sides of each file to define individual receptacles for each module. Tabs in the shelving register with grovoes on the external housing of the dimmer modules, whereby precise tongue and groove mounting of each dimmer module is obtained. The rack provides vertical input power and control signal busses which are mounted side by side at the rear of the rack which register with and are engaged by first mating connectors on the rear of each of the dimmer modules at one end therof. A vertical output power bus is provided at the seat of the rack on the side opposite the power and control signal busses which registers with and engages other mating connectors on the rear of the dimmer modules at the end opposite the first connectors. A vertical neutral bus strip is mounted adjacent the output power bus to provide a return wire connection point for each lighting circuit. Where three phase power is supplied to the rack, the dimmer modules are grouped vertically by phase, one below the other. This permits quick and efficient rack to rack bussing.

Dimmer rack

A dimmer module including a dimmer circuit for use in controlling lighting used in theatrical and architectural operations. The module features a low cost, compact, thermally efficient design incorporating circuit breakers, a power device including solid state switches, and toroidal chokes, all components being interconnected using with prefabricated tooled interconnections eliminating conventional wiring in a housing adapted to make all external connections on a plug in basis. The housing structure incorporates a built-in handle and a plurality of parallel air flow paths to maximize cooling efficiency.

Plug-in dimmer module for lighting control systems

A self-contained portable unit for use with theater and television dimming systems and, in particular, with one control console of a microprocessor-based lighting control system having a data display device such as a CRT. The unit includes a digitizer tablet, a stylus and an overlay to be placed on the tablet. The keyboard of the console is reproduced in the overlay in the form of keys replicating indicia printed or silk-screened on the overlay. An area is also provided on the overlay for placement of the designer's lighting pattern layout. Lighting pattern information and lighting levels are entered into the system by the unit by touching the stylus to specific points in the layout and to specific key indicia selected by the user. Initially, each symbol on the lighting pattern layout is defined by using the unit or the console to enter the channel, the light level in each channel, cueing instructions, or other information which the symbol represents into the system. Thereafter, by touching the stylus to the symbol when it is in position on the overlay, the complete line or list of information represented by the symbol is immediately displayed on the CRT screen without the necessity of rekeying all the symbol definitional information into the system.
