The present disclosure relates to controls and related methods for mitigating liquid (e.g., compressor refrigerant, etc.) migration and/or floodback.

Controls and related methods for mitigating liquid migration and/or floodback

A valve includes a shaft having threads along at least a portion of a length of the shaft. A travel limit member (e.g., a coil spring, a washer, etc.) is disposed within one or more of the threads. The travel limit member may comprise a coil spring configured to be movable within the threads along the shaft when the shaft is rotated relative to the coil spring. The coil spring is configured to be operable for providing: a safety stall or hard stop for a fully open position of the valve when the coil spring is within the top thread and/or runs out of the threads after having traveled upwardly along the shaft within the threads; and a safety stall or hard stop for a fully closed position of the valve when the coil spring contacts a stop after having traveled downwardly along the shaft within the threads.

Stepper motor control valves for refrigerant expansion and/or system controls

A valve system includes a motor, a first valve, a second valve, and a controller. The first valve is connected to the motor shaft and is rotatable to an open position, in which fluid flows through a first channel, and a close position, in which fluid is prevented from flowing through the first channel. The second valve is connected to the motor shaft and is rotatable to an open position, in which fluid flows through a second channel from a first end to a second end, and to a close position, in which fluid is prevented from flowing through the second channel. The controller is connected to the motor and can sequentially actuate the first valve and the second valve to create at least a first, second, third, and fourth position.

System for fluid pump down using valves

A solenoid coil includes a coil winding that generates an electromagnetic force when a current is supplied to the coil winding. The solenoid coil also includes an electrically insulative bobbin made of an insulating material having a melting point. The bobbin includes a spool for supporting the coil winding. The spool includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The coil winding is positioned between the first end and the second end. The bobbin also includes a flange connected to one of the first end and the second end. A continuous ridge extends from the flange between an outer edge and studs to form a moisture barrier. The solenoid coil further includes an overmold enclosing at least a portion of the bobbin and the coil winding. The overmold bonds to the continuous ridge when the solenoid coil is heated to a temperature above the melting point.

Check valve

A valve is provided that includes a housing having an inlet, an outlet, and a valve seat therebetween. The valve includes a valve member movable towards the valve seat towards engagement with a stop, and away from the valve seat when the solenoid is energized. The valve member has an opening in which a valve element is received. A spring urges the valve member and valve element towards the valve seat, and a solenoid moves the valve member away from the valve seat. The spring biases the valve member to a closed position, in which the valve element engages the valve seat, and the valve member engages a stop that prevents the valve member from impacting against the valve element that is seated against the valve seat. The solenoid when energized causes the valve member to move upward and pull the valve element away from the valve seat.

Solenoid valve

Various exemplary embodiments of a butterfly-type valve that provide a reduction in the unseating torque are disclosed that include a valve body defining a flow passage therein, and a closure disc disposed in the flow passage that has an axis of rotation about which the closure disc rotates between open and closed positions. The valve includes a cylindrical body liner disposed within the valve, which includes a circumferential sealing surface that is engaged by the closure disc to establish a seal when the closure disc is rotated to a closed position. At least one resilient band is at least partially interposed between the valve body and the cylindrical body liner, and at least a portion of the resilient band is tapered to a reduced thickness. The taper reduces the forces associated with the engagement by the closure disc, to thereby reduce the unseating torque required to open the closure disc.

Butterfly valves and construction thereof

A solenoid valve is provided that includes an inlet, an outlet, a valve seat in the flow path between the inlet and the outlet, a stationary core, and a moveable member for moving between an open position and a closed position against the valve seat. A resilient dampening member is disposed between the moveable member and the stationary core, and is independent from both the stationary core and the moveable member. A spring biases the resilient dampening member against the stationary core and the moveable member away from the stationary core to a closed position. Upon energizing a solenoid with a direct current voltage, the moveable member moves from the closed position towards the stationary member to an open position against the resilient dampening member. The resilient dampening member dampens the impact between the moveable member and the stationary core to reduce the noise associated with energizing the solenoid.

A solenoid valve is provided that comprises a valve body having an inlet and an outlet, and a movable member for moving a valve element away from a valve seat to open the valve. The moveable member engages and moves the valve element away from the seat to an open position when the solenoid is actuated. When the solenoid is not actuated, a biasing spring moves the moveable member to disengage from the valve element, which returns to a closed position. The moveable member does not transfer any impact force to the valve element on closure of the valve member, so that the valve may be operated a significant number of cycles without failure.

Solenoid valve for fluid flow

A four port reversing valve for a reversible-cycle refrigeration system having a compressor is constructed with the reversing valve having a first inlet port adapted to be connected to the compressor and second, third, and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve is further provided with a valve member operable between first and second positions. The valve member in its first position connects the first inlet port with the second port and the third port with the fourth port, and the valve member in its second position connects the first inlet port with the fourth port, and the second port with the third ports. The second and third ports and the third and fourth ports are arranged so that the angle between the ports is about 135&deg;. In one embodiment the valve member rotates, and in another it translates linearly. Several means are disclosed for actuating the valve member.

Cycle reversing valve for use in heat pumps

A four port reversing valve for a reversible-cycle refrigeration system having a compressor is constructed with the reversing valve having a first inlet port adapted to be connected to the compressor and second, third, and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve is further provided with a rotatable valve member operable between first and second positions. The valve member in its first position connects the first inlet port with the second port and the third port with the fourth port, and the valve member in its second position connects the first inlet port with the fourth port, and the second port with the third ports. The second and third ports and the third and fourth ports are arranged so that the angle between the ports is greater than about 90&deg;. The third port is preferably oriented at an angle of about 120&deg; with respect to the second and fourth ports, but the third port may also be oriented at an angle of about 135&deg; with respect to the second and fourth ports. The four port reversing valve further comprises a rotating drive mechanism with the valve member magnetically coupled to the rotating drive mechanism. Alternatively, a linked rotary solenoid or hermetic motor can be connected to the valve member.
