An apparatus is for installing support for a surface of a mine passage, such as a mine roof, using an object, such as a roof bolt. The apparatus includes a driver adapted to advance toward the surface for driving the object into the surface. A gripper includes first and second arms for gripping the object in a deployed position, such as upper and lower arms. The arms are linked such that engagement by one of the arms with the driver during advance causes the arms to retract towards each other (downwardly, for example, in the case of the upper arm, and upwardly, for example, in the case of the lower arm). Related methods are also disclosed.

An apparatus serves to grip a cable for delivery into a borehole in a surface of a mine passage in connection with an actuator, such as a drill mast having a carriage capable of being advanced and retracted along the drill mast. A pusher is formed from a pair of jaws for engaging the cable. The jaws may be biased toward a first position for engaging the cable during an advance of the carriage, and automatically movable to a second position for releasing from engagement with the cable during a retraction of the carriage. The pusher may be pivotally mounted to a carriage capable of being advanced and retracted along a drill mast, which movement may cause the jaws to self-actuate for engaging and advancing the cable during an upstroke and release therefrom during a downstroke. Related methods are also disclosed.

Cable pusher and related methods

A system for securing different first and second drill tools to a drill head including a socket is provided. The system includes a chuck adapted for positioning at least partially within the socket of the drill head, the chuck including a first opening for receiving the first drill tool. An adapter is configured for forming a selective locking engagement within the first opening of the chuck, the adapter including a second opening for receiving the second drill tool. The selective locking engagement may comprise a 'twist lock' engagement, and the adapter may be arranged for receiving a roof bolt. Related methods are also disclosed.

An apparatus abates noise from the operation of a drill head including a drilling element for engaging a face of a mine passage during a drilling cycle in which the drill head moves from a first position farther from the face to a second position closer to the face. The apparatus includes a collapsible barrier capable of moving between an extended condition to cover a portion of the drilling element during the formation of the borehole and a retracted condition in which the portion of the drilling element covered in the extended condition is exposed. A holder is adapted for releasably coupling with the barrier in the extended condition. Related methods are also disclosed.

Device for reducing drilling noise and related methods

An apparatus is for use by an operator in forming boreholes in a mine passage including a rib and a roof. The apparatus includes a boom having a proximal end mounted to a base, such as a vehicle. A drill supported by the boom near a distal end thereof is adapted for drilling into the rib of the mine passage. An operator's station carried by the boom adjacent the drill includes a platform for supporting the operator arranged at least partially between a generally vertical plane aligned with the second lateral side and the rib. Accordingly, the operator can access the rib when positioned on the operator's station without interference from the boom.

A system for handling a roll of mesh for application to one or more faces of an underground mine passage includes a dispenser for supporting the roll of mesh for application to at least one face of the mine passage, as well as at least one arm for supporting the mesh adjacent to the face upon being dispensed from the dispenser. The arm is capable of flexing in providing this support to provide tension to the mesh during the application from the roll to the at least one face of the mine passage. The dispenser may include a cradle for dispensing the mesh from the roll. The cradle may include a base for supporting the roll of mesh and at least one laterally extendable support for supporting a first lateral side of the roll of mesh. Related methods are also disclosed.

In one aspect, the invention comprises an instrumented drill head for intended use with a drilling machine including a drilling element, such as a drill bit. The drill head includes a case with a rotatable chuck for the drilling element. A first sensor associated with the drill head senses and generates an output signal representative of a first parameter of the drilling operation. A transmitter wirelessly transmits the signal to a receiver associated with a controller. A roof bolting machine including the drill head and a resin inserter is also disclosed, as are related methods of instrumenting a drill head and drilling using an instrumented drill head.
