A fiber array launcher assembly including a hollow body having a front end and a rear end; an alignment plate having an array of holes coupled to the rear end of the body; a beam shaper having an array of lenses coupled to the front end of the body, where a separate lens is aligned with each hole in the alignment plate; and a plurality of fiber assemblies each including a fiber having an end face spliced to an end of an endcap where the endcap has a larger diameter than a diameter of the fiber, and where a separate endcap is secured in each hole so that the fiber is aligned with the associated lens.

Fiber array launcher assembly

A method for amplifying an optical seed beam in a fiber laser amplifier system. The method includes frequency modulating the seed beam to a carrier spectral band, amplitude modulating the seed beam that is synchronized with the frequency modulated seed beam, amplifying the seed beam using a pump power beam to provide an output beam where most of the beam power resides in the carrier spectral band, sampling off a sample beam from the output beam, filtering out the carrier spectral band from the sample beam, detecting beam power of the filtered sample beam and providing a beam power signal, and controlling one or more of the frequency modulation of the seed beam, the amplitude modulation of the seed beam and the pump power beam to change an FM modulation depth, an AM modulation depth and/or pump beam power in a manner that reduces the beam power signal.

Method for amplifying an optical seed beam

A fiber laser amplifier system including a first dual-clad delivery fiber receiving a signal beam and a pump beam, a doped amplifying fiber coupled to the first delivery fiber and receiving the signal beam and the pump beam, and amplifying the signal beam using the pump beam, and a second dual-clad delivery fiber coupled to the amplifying fiber and receiving the amplified signal beam and the pump beam. The system also includes an endcap having an input facet and an output facet. The input facet is coupled to the second delivery fiber and receives the amplified signal beam and the pump beam, and the output facet is configured to pass the amplified signal beam and reflect the pump beam back onto the second delivery fiber to be directed back to the doped amplifying fiber.

Fiber laser with double-passed pump architecture

A fiber laser amplifier system including a non-linear fiber amplifier receiving a seed beam and a pump beam, where the amplifier amplifies the seed beam using the pump beam to provide an output beam having a carrier spectrum. A beam sampler samples off a sample beam from the output beam, a filter receives the sample beam and filters out the carrier spectrum from the sample beam, a photodetector detects beam power of the filtered sample beam and provides a beam power signal, and a controller receives the beam power signal, where the controller controls one or more of an FM drive signal, an AM drive signal and a pump beam to change seed beam FM modulation, seed beam AM modulation and/or pump power in a manner that reduces the beam power of the filtered sample beam and thus beam power outside of the carrier spectrum.

Servo-stabilized phase demodulated fiber amplifier system

A system and method for fabricating an optical element. The method includes welding an array of fibers to the optical element, measuring an angle error and a position error of each fiber, calculating a correction for each fiber for the angle error and the position error and correcting the angle and position of each fiber using the calculated corrections.

System and method for fabricating an optical element

A method for assembling a two-dimensional fiber array launcher assembly. The method includes providing an alignment structure having a two-dimensional alignment plate with holes at one end and a two-dimensional beam shaper with micro-lenses at an opposite end. An endcap having a fiber attached thereto is systematically positioned in each hole, and is aligned with one of the micro-lenses with a high precision tolerance. The aligned endcap is then secured in the hole using a curable glue. This process is continued until all of the holes have aligned endcaps. If one of the endcaps is mis-aligned or becomes damaged, the glue can be heated and the endcap realigned or replaced.

Direct glue compact two dimensional fiber launcher assembly

A WDM seed beam source for a fiber laser amplifier system that includes a number of master oscillators that generate seed beams at different wavelengths and a spectral multiplexer that multiplexes all of the seed beams onto a single fiber. An EOM modulates the combined seed beams on the single fiber and a spectral demultiplexer then separates the modulated seed beams into their constituent wavelengths on separate fibers before the seed beams are amplified and spectrally combined. The fiber laser amplifier system includes a separate fiber amplifier that amplifies the separated seed beams, an emitter array that directs the amplified beams into free space, beam collimating optics that focuses the uncombined beams, and an SBC grating responsive to the collimated uncombined beams that spatially combines the collimated uncombined beams.

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) beam source

A method for providing spectral beam combining (SBC) including generating a plurality seed beams each having a central wavelength and a low fill factor profile, where the wavelength of all of the seed beams is different; amplifying the seed beams; causing the amplified beams to expand as they propagate so as to be converted from the low fill factor profile to a high fill factor profile where the high fill factor profile tapers to a lower value at a perimeter of each beam; causing a wavefront of the converted beams to flatten to provide a plurality of adjacent SBC beams having different wavelengths with minimal overlap and a minimal gap between the beams; collimating the SBC beams; and directing the collimated SBC beams onto an SBC element that spatially diffracts the individual beam wavelengths and directing the beams in the same direction as a combined output beam.

The assembly includes an input beam shaper array having a plurality of input cells positioned adjacent to each other that are shaped to cause the beam to expand as it propagates away from the input array to be converted from the low fill factor profile to a high fill factor profile and cause the profile to taper to a lower value at a perimeter of each input array cell. The assembly further includes an output beam shaper array having a plurality of output cells positioned adjacent to each other that are shaped to cause the beam to stop expanding so that the output array provides a plurality of adjacent beams with minimal overlap and a minimal gap between the beams.

Hybrid coherent beam combining (CBC) and spectral beam combining (SBC) fiber laser amplifier system

A method for assembling a beam combiner array including providing an array block having a back wall, a front surface and a plurality of aligned channels extending from the back wall to the front surface, where a bore extends through the back wall and into each channel, and providing a lens array including a plurality of lenses. The method further includes securing the lens array to the front surface of the block so that one of the lenses is aligned with each channel and threading a separate hollow core fiber through one of the bores in the back wall so that an end of the fiber is positioned within the channel. The method also includes aligning each fiber to the lens array so that a beam that propagates down the fiber is emitted into the channel, focused by the lens and emitted from the array as a collimated beam.
