Methods and compositions for promoting donor-specific tolerance and immunocompetence to a recipient of a solid organ transplant, by implanting an allogeneic solid organ in a recipient in need of a solid organ transplant and further comprising surgical implantation of a tissue-engineered allogeneic cultured postnatal thymus tissue product in the recipient of a solid organ from a donor. Methods of producing an allogeneic cultured postnatal thymus tissue-derived product suitable for implantation into a human; methods of culturing allogeneic cultured postnatal thymus tissue-derived product suitable for implantation into a human and methods of using allogeneic cultured postnatal thymus tissue-derived product by implantation in a human subject.

A method of eliciting an immune response against an antigen in a vertebrate subject, the method comprising the steps of providing an antigen-adjuvant composition comprising the antigen and a substantially non-toxic adjuvant molecule having biological activity in mucosal tissues, and administering said antigen-adjuvant composition to the vertebrate subject in a manner such that initial contact occurs in mucosal tissue of the vertebrate subject, whereby an immune response is elicited. Cytokines are preferred adjuvants. Preferred cytokines are interleukin-1&#x3b1;(IL-1&#x3b1;) and interleukin-1&#x3b2; (IL-1&#x3b2;).

Substantially non-toxic biologically active mucosal adjuvants in vertebrate subjects

The present invention relates, in general, to an assay system and, in particular, to a molecular assay system for the detection and/or quantification of mouse T cell receptor excision circles. The present system can be used to detect newly produced na&iuml;ve T lymphocytes and to monitor thymic output and T lymphocyte immune reconstitution in mice.
