A process for molding dimensionally accurate plastic articles using a low pressure injection molding technique. The process utilizes a two-piece silicone rubber mold having a cavity representative of the shape of the article to be molded. The mold is substantially encased on all sides in a rigid mold box to prevent deformation of the cavity during the molding process (10). The mold box and the encased mold are placed in a vacuum chamber, and a vacuum is drawn on the chamber to evacuate the cavity (20). A predetermined amount of a reactive mixture is simultaneously mixed and injected under pressure into the mold to form the plastic article (30). The amount of material injected is sufficient to fill the cavity but not sufficient to distort the cavity. The chamber is vented (40) and the mold is removed from the mold box (50). The mold is flexed in order to remove the plastic article from the mold (60).

A rotary control device is provided comprising a light receptor (52), a plurality of light sources (54) radially spaced from the light receptor (52), a light director (14) having means for directing light from the light source (54) to the receptor (52) and means for rotating the director (14) thereby selectively directing light from the light sources (54) to the light receptor (52). In another aspect of the invention, the optical rotary device further comprises an isolator (56) made of opaque material which surrounds four sides of the light receptor (52) and four sides of the light sources (54). In a further aspect of the invention the light director includes a reflector (46) for directing the light from the light sources (54) to the light receptor (52).

A cam actuated control device (10) is provided. The control device (10) includes at least two momentary switches (13, 14) which are surface mounted on a circuit substrate (12). An actuating member (20) having a contoured cam surface (25) is movably positioned proximate to the switches (13, 14) such that movement of the actuating member (20) selectively actuates the switches (13, 14) to produce a binary encoded output.

A rotary control device is provided comprising a light source (22), at least one light receptor (24) radially spaced from the light source (22), a light director (14) having means for directing light from the light source (22) to the receptor (24) and means for rotating the director (14) so that the light director (14) is in a first position when not directing light from the light source (22) to the light receptor (24) and the light director (14) is in a second position when directing light from the light source (22) to the light receptor (24). In another aspect of the invention, the optical rotary device further comprises an isolator (26) made of opaque material which surrounds four sides of the light receptor (24) and four sides of the light source (22). In a further aspect of the invention the light director includes a reflector (46) for directing the light from the light source (22) to the light receptors (24).

An optical rotary control device (10) is provided comprising a light source (12) and at least one light receptor (14) linearly spaced, creating a planar axis with the light source (12). A rotatable light director (16) is provided which includes means for directing light from the light source (12) to at least one optical aperture (22) in the light director (16). The optical aperture (22) refracts the directed light from the light director (16) to the light receptor (14). The optical rotary control (10) device further comprises an isolator portion (20) having recesses (24) for receiving and separating the light source (12) and light receptor (14). The means for directing light may include a cut out section (18) in one end of the light director (16 ).
