A user of a self-powered electronic combination lock rotates an outer dial to cause generators to generate energy for storage in a capacitor bank. The user then rotates an inner dial to cause a microcontroller to sequentially display a combination of numbers, and presses the inner dial to select a displayed number. The microcontroller determines direction and extent of motion of the inner dial by receiving signals derived from Wiegand sensors placed in proximity to a magnetized disc which rotates integrally with the inner dial, and controls the display of numerals on an LCD display accordingly. When the microcontroller determines that a correct combination has been entered, it activates a motor to move a motor cam to act directly on a locking lever so that the locking lever can engage a drive cam integrally linked with the inner dial, to allow the inner dial to withdraw the lock's bolt. Software features, as well as power level monitoring features, cause the locking lever to be moved away from the drive cam to prevent the bolt from being withdrawn if it has not already been withdrawn within a given time window. Integral bearing/retaining members make the lock dials tamper-evident. After a given number of successive incorrect combination entries, an 'override' combination, which is preferably a longer, mathematical variation of normal combinations, is necessary to open the lock.

A tumbler wheel scrambler assembly for combination locks of the type having a plurality of tumbler wheels and a driving cam arranged in a stack in a lock case with lost motion couplings for rotating the tumbler wheels upon rotation of the driving cam by a dial, and having a slidable bolt and pivoted fence lever for moving the bolt from projected locking position to unlocking position when the proper opening combination has been dialed. The lock case has a scrambler mounting post therein and the scrambler included a two piece housing of mating housing halves collectively defining guide channels for elongated slide members having hook formations protruding into positions to engage with gates of the tumbler wheels for spring forced scrambling of the tumbler wheel positions during displacement of the bolt from projected locking position. The scrambler housing halves have mounting ear formations for collectively encircling the mounting post to pivotally support the scrambler housing from the lock case.

A changeable key cylinder padlock including a padlock casing, a shackle moveable between a lower locking position and a upper release position, the casing having a central substantially cylindrical cavity therein located between the sockets shaped to receive and removably house a key lock cylinder. The lock cylinder located in the plug cavity has a first key position and is operable by a operator key and control key to rotate to second and third key positions respectively. Locking spheres are positioned when the lock cylinder occupies the first key position to hold the shackle in the lower locking position and release the shackle at the second and third key positions for movement to said upper release position. An interlock plunger and pin are intercoupled with the lock plug normally occupying a first interlock position allowing key rotation of the cylinder member to and between the key positions and movable when the cylinder member occupies the second key position and the shackle is moved to said release position to assume a second interlock position restraining the cylinder member against return movement to the first key position to restrain the key against removal from the lock cylinder.

A combination lock of the type adapted for changing of the combination by a change key, a lock case housing, a stack of a plurality of tumbler wheels loosely journaled on a tumbler post for rotation about its axis and each including an annular outer rim portion and an inner annular hub portion having teeth releasably intercoupling the hub portion and rim portion at any of a plurality of relative angular positions. The rim portions of the tumbler wheels have specially shaped peripheral gates to receive confronting portions of a fence on the fence lever when the tumbler wheels are properly aligned. The tumbler post is supported within the tumbler wheel hub portions for nonrotatable axial movement to shift the hub portions axially relative to the outer rim portions between coupled and decoupled relation. An actuator is activated by rotation of the change key for axially moving the tumbler post and the tumbler wheel hub portions to shift the hub portions to decoupled relation for combination change and a secondary change fence member is slidable rectilinearly into inserted relation in the tumbler wheel gates and retractable therefrom upon movement the of the actuator to selectively hold the rim portion against rotation.

A changeable key plug type padlock including a padlock body formed as an upper body section and a lower body section defining a pair of companion relatively displaceable body sections having correspondingly shaped outer peripheries in cross-section forming continuations of each other in aligned registered relation. The padlock casing has laterally spaced sockets disposed partially in both companion body sections opening through the upper portion of the padlock body for receiving legs of a shackle and a central substantially cylindrical plug cavity located between the sockets. The lower padlock body section having an elongated slideway cavity communicating with the plug cavity and extending from the zone overlying the plug cavity through one end of the lower padlock body section, defining a slideway portion bounded laterally by alternating tongue and groove formation, and the upper body section has an integral downwardly extending slide formation at the bottom thereof conforming substantially to the shape of the slideway cavity. A rotatable adaptor cam in an upper portion of the plug cavity is rotatable by the key lock plug between a locking position and first and second shackle release portions and has formations receiving a projection from the slide formation to restrain the slide formation and upper body section against movement from aligned registry with the lower body section when the adaptor cam occupies the locking position and the first release position and to release the body section for coupling and decoupling movement at said second release position.
