An optimized Gamma-prime (γ') strengthened austenitic transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steel comprises a composition designed and processed such that the optimized γ′ strengthened austenitic TRIP steel meets property objectives comprising a yield strength of 896 MPa (130 ksi), and an austenite stability designed to have M(sh)=−40° C., wherein M(sh) is a temperature for shear, and wherein the property objectives are design specifications of the optimized γ′ strengthened austenitic TRIP steel. The optimized γ′ strengthened austenitic TRIP steel is Blastalloy TRIP 130.

Aluminum alloys are provided. The alloys can include one or more of zinc, magnesium, copper, zirconium, yttrium, erbium, ytterbium, scandium, silver, and the balance of aluminum and incidental elements and impurities. The alloys can be used for additive manufacturing of various articles, such as aircraft components.

In one embodiment of the present disclosure, a niobium metal alloy composition includes: a vanadium content in the range of about 1.5 to about 12 weight percent; a hafnium content in the range of about 5 to about 13 weight percent; a titanium or zirconium content or a mixture of titanium and zirconium content in the range of about 0.25 to about 2.5 weight percent; and a niobium content as a balance of the alloy.

A near-&#x3b1; transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) titanium (Ti) alloy is designed by using a thermodynamic database and a mobility database of Ti alloys for &#x3b1;, &#x3b2;, and TiAl phase equilibria and diffusive processes; based on experimental data, creating a thermodynamic and kinetic database for &#x3b2;-to-&#x3b1;'/&#x3b1;&#x2033; martensitic transformations in the Ti alloys; creating a molar volume database for the &#x3b2;-to-&#x3b1;&#x2032;/&#x3b1;&#x2033; martensitic transformations in the Ti alloys at room temperature; and obtaining an overall composite of the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy by adjusting a reference overall composite of a reference near-&#x3b1; Ti alloy based on the created thermodynamic database, where the reference near-&#x3b1; Ti alloy is Ti-5Al-1Sn-1Zr-1V-0.8Mo-0.1Si-0.1Fe-0.1O by weight percentage (Ti-5111), and wherein the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy is Ti-8Al-1V-1Sn-1Zr-0.6Mo-0.9Fe-0.1Si-0.1O by weight percentage.

Computationally-designed transformation-toughened near-alpha titanium alloy

In one aspect, a method of computationally designing a near-&#x3b1; transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) titanium (Ti) alloy is provided. A thermodynamic database of Ti alloys is created. The data of the thermodynamic database is tailored for martensitic transformations in the Ti alloys near room temperature. Then an overall composite of the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy may be obtained by adjusting a reference overall composite of a reference near-&#x3b1; Ti alloy based on the tailored data in the thermodynamic database. In certain embodiments, an annealing temperature of the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy may be determined such that a M(ct) temperature of the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy is about room temperature. In certain embodiments, the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy is Ti-8Al-1V-1Sn-1Zr-0.6Mo-0.9Fe-0.1Si-0.1O by weight percentage. In certain embodiments, the near-&#x3b1; TRIP Ti alloy may be cooled at a cooling rate greater than 20&#xb0; C./min after annealing to inhibit formation of grain-boundary &#x3b1; (GB-&#x3b1;) phase.

A martensitic stainless steel alloy is strengthened by copper-nucleated nitride precipitates. The alloy includes, in combination by weight percent, about 10.0 to about 12.5 Cr, about 2.0 to about 7.5 Ni, up to about 17.0 Co, about 0.6 to about 1.5 Mo, about 0.5 to about 2.3 Cu, up to about 0.6 Mn, up to about 0.4 Si, about 0.05 to about 0.15 V, up to about 0.10 N, up to about 0.035 C, up to about 0.01 W, and the balance Fe and incidental elements and impurities. The nitride precipitates may be enriched by one or more transition metals.

Martensitic stainless steel strengthened by copper-nucleated nitride precipitates

A transformation toughened, high-strength steel alloy useful in plate steel applications achieves extreme fracture toughness (Cv > 80 ft-lbs corresponding to KId=200 ksi.in &#xbd;) at strength levels of 150-180 ksi yield strength, is weldable and formable. The alloy is characterized by dispersed austenite stabilization for transformation toughening to a weldable, bainitic plate steel and is strengthened by precipitation of M2C carbides in combination with copper and nickel. The desired microstructure is a matrix containing a bainite-martensite mix, BCC copper and M2C carbide particles for strengthening with a fine dispersion of optimum stability austenite for transformation toughening. The bainite-martensite mix is formed by air-cooling from solution treatment temperature and subsequent aging at secondary hardening temperatures to precipitate the toughening and strengthening dispersions.

Ultratough high-strength weldable plate steel and its method of manufacturing thereof

An advanced secondary hardening carburized Ni&#x2014;Co steel achieves an improved case hardness of about 68-69 Rc together with nominal core hardness of about 50 Rc.

Case hardenable nickel-cobalt steel

A carburized and tempered hardened steel structure includes an iron based steel alloy including from about 3.7 to about 6 wt % copper, from 6 to about 10 wt % cobalt and from about 1 to about 10 wt % of non-ferrous secondary carbide formation elements selected from any of the group consisting of chromium, molybdenum, vanadium and combinations thereof. At least a percentage of the secondary carbide formation elements are in the form of metal carbides attached to nucleation sites on copper precipitates within a carburized portion of the structure, and wherein the copper precipitates are at least one of i) characterized by a mean copper precipitate radius of from about 0.1 nm to about 5 nm, or ii) characterized by a density of about 2.7&#xd7;10per cubic centimeter.

An austenitic TRIP steel consisting essentially of, in weight %, 0.14 to 0.18% Al, 2.8 to 3.2% Ti, 23.5 to 23.8% Ni, 3.8 to 4.2% Cr, 1.1 to 1.3% Mo, 0.29 to 0.31% V, 0.01 to 0.015% B, 0.01 to 0.02% C, and balance Fe and incidental impurities exhibits combined high yield strength and high strain hardening leading to improved stretch ductility under both tension and shear dynamic loading conditions.
