An augmented reality device. The device includes an integrated lens system having a field of view (FOV). The lens system includes a reflective layer, a transparent substrate layer, an external light control layer, and an anti-reflective layer. The device also includes a display device configured to present an image on an interior surface of the integrated lens system.

A head-mounted display (HMD) apparatus comprising at least one optical system, each optical system comprising a lens having a reflective optical surface and an HMD device associated with and distanced from the reflective optical surface. The HMD device comprises a substrate having horizontal and/or vertical convex curvatures having a curved geometric profile which continuously curves with smooth transitions in horizontal and/or vertical dimensions. The curved profile is dimensioned to curve around a temple of a wearer and extend in a direction toward an ear of a wearer. The substrate comprising a plurality of pixel elements arranged along the horizontal convex curvature and being controlled to selectively radiate light representative of computer-generated content (CGC) to the associated reflective optical surface such that those selected pixel elements for display emanate rays of the light for subsequent reflection from the reflective optical surface toward a respective one eye of the wearer.

Full human field of view (FOV) wrap around head-mounted display apparatus with a convex display device

An optical system that includes a lens element and a lens element holder. The optical system also includes a display device holder that is configured to hold a display device having a single light-emitting panel. The lens element includes a right-eye reflective surface and a left-eye reflective surface. The right-eye reflective surface includes a first plurality of different surface elements oriented to reflect and collimate light from corresponding different regions of a first portion of the light-emitting panel toward a predetermined right-eye location, and the left-eye reflective surface includes a second plurality of different surface elements oriented to reflect and collimate light from corresponding different regions of a second portion of the light-emitting panel toward a predetermined left-eye location.

Multiple-eye, single-display, ultrawide-field-of-view optical see-through augmented reality system

Multiple-reflector ultrawide field of view (UWFOV) systems and methods are provided. In one embodiment, a head-wearable display device includes a frame, a narrow-beam light source fixed with respect to the frame, a UWFOV reflective surface fixed with respect to the frame, and a diverging reflective surface fixed with respect to the frame that is configured to receive light emitted from the narrow-beam light source and reflect the light toward the UWFOV reflective surface to spread the light completely across the UWFOV reflective surface.

Head-wearable ultra-wide field of view display device

A head-up display (HUD) apparatus is provided. The HUD apparatus includes a display holder configured to hold a single planar multiple-pixel display. The HUD apparatus also includes a single reflective and transmissive lens that is configured to reflect an image from the planar multiple-pixel display toward a predetermined location of a user. The reflective and transmissive lens is further configured to at least partially collimate light from the planar multiple-pixel display to focus the image at a distance in front of the reflective and transmissive lens for each eye of two eyes of the user.

The lens has an HMD field of view (H-FOV) of a real-world view. The method comprises determining, by the processor, a magnification factor of a sight field of view (S-FOV) for the detected sight. The method includes displaying, by a display device of the HMD apparatus, computer generated data (CGD) in the S-FOV relative to a magnification level according to the magnification factor of the S-FOV of the real-world view while looking through the sight. The Fresnel lens system () can include at least one curved Fresnel lens element (). Fresnel lens elements () for use in HMDs are also disclosed which have facets () separated by edges () which lie along radial lines () which during use of the HMD pass through a center of rotation () of a nominal user's eye () or through the center of the eye's lens () or are normal to the surface of the eye's cornea.

Mipping systems and methods are disclosed. For example, a mipping system can include processing circuitry configured to receive combinations of a plurality of pixels N at a time, each pixel having material codes directed to respective materials of the pixels, where the material codes relate to infrared properties of the respective materials, and N is a positive integer greater than 1; and train an artificial neural network having a classification space by providing respective neurons for each unique combination of material codes, and condition the artificial neural network so that the respective neurons activate when presented with their unique of material code combinations in order to create a combined set of material code parameters for accurate rendering of the mipped pixels.

Methods of forming an optical element, and related devices, components, and systems are disclosed. One method comprises printing a mold element comprising at least one mold surface using an additive manufactured device. The method further comprises providing a plastic sheet over the mold element. The method further comprises vacuum thermoforming the plastic sheet such that at least a first portion of the plastic sheet conforms to the at least one mold surface of the mold element. This vacuum thermoforming of the plastic sheet forms an optical element from at least a second portion of the plastic sheet. One advantage of this method is that different optical elements may be quickly and inexpensively fabricated, thereby reducing the cost of development and production of the optical elements.

System, method and computer program product for real-time alignment of an augmented reality device

A method of designing lenses includes defining a material having an inside reflective surface spanning an area, and providing an optical design algorithm which defines a plurality of oxels across the area. Each oxel has a plurality of sub-elements including a center sub-element and a plurality of neighboring sub-elements. Based on a defined optical prescription for the inside reflective surface, an optically corrected reference 3D surface is calculated for each oxel having spherical and cylindrical corrections relative to a spherical contour which spans a predetermined field of view (FOV) with respect to a single (common) predetermined reference point. A position of at least a first of the sub-elements for each of the oxels is moved to approach respective final 3D positions on the optically corrected reference 3D surface, where the moving is constrained to be along an individual line connecting each of the first sub-elements to the single predetermined reference point.

A head mounted display (HMD)-based training tool includes a HMD, sensor components, and electronics components. The sensor components include an external environment sensor for obtaining data of a real training scene. The electronics components include a simulator including at least one processor coupled to receive the real training scene data. The simulator generates virtual image data based on simulator input signals, where the virtual image data represents at least one virtual object. A display device is coupled to receive the virtual image data from the simulator. A field of view (FOV) of the HMD includes the virtual object from the display device and a real-world view of the real training scene, wherein the simulator modifies the virtual image data responsive to changes in the simulator input signals.

A system is disclosed including a mountable component configured with an attachment to allow the mountable component to be readily attached to and removed from an independent wearable garment, a positioning slide connected to the mountable component, a display mount connected to the positioning slide, a lens adjustment arm attached to the positioning slide, and a curved lens surface connected to the lens adjustment arm. The positioning slide is configured to move the lens and display mount in a back and forth direction and a left to right direction. Another system and method are also disclosed.

System and method for providing an augmented reality lightweight clip-on wearable device

A lens includes a material spanning an area and providing an inside reflective three-dimensional (3D) surface. The reflective 3D surface is defined by a plurality of reflective optical elements including a first reflective optical element and at least a second reflective optical element that each include a sub-element set including a center sub-element (CS) and a plurality of neighboring sub-elements. The plurality of reflective optical elements each have their own non-overlapping optical center axis; and a cylindrically bent spherical surface. The cylindrically bent spherical surface is defined by the neighboring sub-elements in each reflective optical element being located at different 3D points so that the reflective optical elements relative to at least one neighboring reflective optical element provides different values of spherical curvature and different values of cylindrical axis orientation. Each of the plurality of reflective optical elements can provide a different optical power for correction of astigmatism.
