A method of operating a washing machine appliance includes calculating a plaster speed of a load of articles in a basket, rotating the basket, and accelerating the basket to a first speed less than the calculated plaster speed and greater than zero during an initial ramp period. The method also includes accelerating the basket from the first speed to a second speed greater than the first speed. The second speed is within a predetermined margin of the calculated plaster speed. The method further includes monitoring a balance condition and accelerating the basket to full plaster speed when the monitored balance condition is within a predetermined tolerance range.

An appliance, such as a washing machine appliance, includes a cabinet comprising a wall defining an aperture configured for receiving support features during shipment of the appliance. When the appliance is installed, the support features are removed, leaving the aperture open and creating a path for noise transmission. Therefore, a sound reducing plug is configured for receipt within the aperture, the sound reducing plug being slightly oversized relative to the aperture such that an interference fit is formed between the sound reducing plug and the wall when the sound reducing plug is installed.

The method may further include determining whether a set condition is met based on the measured movement, and rotating articles within the tub at a plaster speed in response to determining the set condition is met based on the measured movement.

The washing machine appliance may include a cabinet, a tub, a wash basket, a measurement device, a motor, and a controller. The cabinet may include a front panel. The front panel may define an opening. The tub may be positioned within the cabinet. The wash basket may be rotatably mounted within the tub. The wash basket may define a wash chamber to receive an article load of one or more articles. The measurement device may detect movement of the tub. The motor may be in mechanical communication with the wash basket to selectively rotate the wash basket within the tub. The controller may be in operative communication with the measurement device and the motor.

A washing machine appliance configured to detect a location of an imbalanced load is provided. The washing machine appliance utilizes the displacement or a component of the displacement of a tub of the washing machine appliance to determine the location of an out-of-balance load. In particular, the washing machine compares the displacement or component of the displacement of the tub at a first point with the displacement of the tub at a second point that is positioned forward of the first point. By comparing the displacement or components of the displacement of the tub at these two points, the location of the imbalanced load may be determined. Methods for determining imbalanced loads are also provided.

Systems and methods for predicting and preventing a cabinet strike event in a washing machine appliance are provided. An exemplary method includes ramping a target speed of a motor from a first speed to a second speed over a ramping period. The method includes computing an average deviation of an observed speed of the motor from the target speed over the ramping period. The method includes computing an average power consumption by the motor over the ramping period. The method includes determining whether both the average deviation is greater than a first threshold value and the average power consumption is greater than a second threshold value. The method includes rebalancing the load if both the average deviation is greater than a first threshold value and the average power consumption is greater than a second threshold value. The method includes performing one or more standard operations if both conditions are not satisfied.

Systems and methods for predicting and preventing a cabinet strike event in a washing machine appliance

A method for operating a washing machine appliance includes flowing a volume of liquid into a tub, and agitating articles within the tub for a first period and using a first agitation profile, the tub containing the volume of liquid. The method further includes measuring movement of the tub during agitation of the articles within the tub, wherein the step of measuring movement occurs after agitating articles within the tub for the first period and for an intermediate measurement period and using an intermediate agitation profile, and wherein the intermediate agitation profile is different from the first agitation profile. The method further includes agitating articles within the tub for a second period when the final measured movement is greater than an out-of-balance movement threshold. The method further includes draining liquid from the tub when the final measured movement is less than the out-of-balance movement threshold.
