A turbine nozzle includes segments of outer and inner bands supporting corresponding vane pairs. The bands adjoin each other at corresponding ends along splitlines, with each band having a forward land, an opposite aft land, and a middle land extending therebetween. The forward lands have a nominal aft-facing step, the aft lands have a nominal forward-facing step and the middle lands are nominally flush.

A method is provided for making, from a plurality of members brazed together, an article including an environmental resistant surface coating and a wear resistant surface portion. Prior to brazing, the members are assembled with at least one preform including the wear resistant material in a matrix including a first brazing alloy having a brazing temperature in a brazing temperature range. The assembly of members includes a second brazing alloy having a brazing temperature in the brazing temperature range. The assembly of members and wear resistant preform is heated in the brazing temperature range to provide a brazed article preform. Then the article preform is machined to a selected geometry and can be coated with the environmental coating.

A turbine nozzle includes a plurality of airfoils and integral hubs brazed into corresponding seats of outer and inner bands. The hubs have brazeless fillets blending the bands to the airfoils.

A cooling shroud segment for a high pressure turbine that provides improved cooling in the region of the side panels from the midsection thereof forward to the leading edge and particularly in the midsection of the side panel. A shroud subassembly can be formed from a pair of such adjacent shroud segments with opposed adjacent side panels where the spacing of the outlets of the cooling air passages exiting from each of these adjacent side panels are staggered and where the adjacent panels have a spline seal slot with a humped section in at least the midsection of the side panel above and across the outlets of the cooling air passages exiting from the midsection of the side panel, in combination with a spline seal positioned in the gap between the opposed adjacent side panels. This shroud subassembly provides more uniform impingement cooling coverage and localizes more of the cooling air exiting the outlets from these passages in the midsection of the opposed side panels.

Shroud cooling segment and assembly

To cool the shroud assembly in the high pressure turbine section of a gas turbine engine, high pressure cooling air is directed in metered flow to baffle plenums and thence through baffle perforations to impingement cool the rails and back surfaces of the shroud. Impingement cooling air then flows through elongated, convection cooling passages in the shroud sections and exits to flow along the shroud front surface with the main gas stream to provide film cooling. The aft rail of the shroud sections is provided with one or more cooling holes to impingement cool the annular retaining ring or C-clip retaining the shroud sections on the shroud hangers. This cooling air then travels aftward on the inboard side of the C-clip to provide convection cooling of the C-clip. In an alternative embodiment, cooling air is directed at the aft corners of the shroud base to avoid overheating.
