Methods and apparatus for signal processing is disclosed. The methods and apparatus include a first autocorrelator configured to autocorrelate a received signal using a first time delay to produce a first correlation magnitude, a second autocorrelator configured to autocorrelate the received signal using a second time delay different from the first time delay to produce a second correlation magnitude, and a detector configured to determine whether the received signal comprises a packet preamble based on the first and second correlation magnitudes.

Methods and apparatuses are proposed for supporting one or more user-dependent channel state information (CSI) feedback rates in a downlink spatial division multiple access (SDMA) system. For certain aspects, an access point (AP) may receive a channel evolution feedback from one or more stations and send a request for CSI to the stations whose CSI values need to be updated. For certain aspects, the AP may poll the stations for updated CSI values. For certain aspects, deterministic back-off timers may be assigned to the stations indicating when to send their CSI feedback. The proposed methods may improve system performance.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure present physical layer metrics for supporting adaptive station-dependent channel state information feedback rate in multi-user communication systems. For certain aspects, the physical layer metrics may be calculated at the stations and communicated to the AP. For certain aspects, the metrics may be calculated at an access point utilizing information about channel characteristics of stations available at the access point.

The invention utilizes small, narrow-band and frequency adaptable antennas to provide coverage to a wide range of wireless modes and frequency bands on a host wireless device. The antennas have narrow pass-band characteristics, require minimal space on the host device, and allow for smaller form factor. The frequency tunability further allows for a fewer number of antennas to be used. The operation of the antennas may also be adaptably relocated from unused modes to in-use modes to maximize performance. These features of the antennas result in cost and size reductions. In another aspect, the antennas may be broadband antennas.

Adaptable antenna system

Systems, methods, apparatus, processors and computer-readable media include a radiated testing module that executes a predetermined radiated performance test on a wireless device. The test dictates various performance-related parameters to measure and log at each of a plurality of predetermined positions. Further, the wireless device receives synchronization information operable to enable synchronization between the logged measurements and each of the positions. The synchronized log allows the wireless device, or another apparatus, to determine a radiated performance characteristic based on a predetermined analysis protocol. Further, the described embodiments allow for the determination of several radiated performance characteristics in a single test, using a single, unaltered wireless device.

An apparatus and method for determining radiated performance of multiple antennas in a wireless system on the basis of capacity degradation comprising calculating a plurality of normalized IID channel matrices based on a plurality of complex gain patterns; calculating a plurality of colored channel matrices based on the plurality of normalized IID channel matrices; calculating a first channel capacity corresponding to the plurality of normalized IID channel matrices; calculating a second channel capacity corresponding to the plurality of colored channel matrices; and calculating a capacity degradation based on the first channel capacity and the second channel capacity.

Apparatus and method for determining multi-antenna radiated performance of wireless devices

A self-test prediction system predicts the impact that a host device has on an embedded wireless device's receiver performance by recording the wireless device's received power. No carrier or pilot signal is necessary to predict the impact. The wireless device's embedded receiver monitors its own received power (e.g., RSSI) from any type of radiated noise from the host device. For receivers that do not provide RSS referenced to absolute power, an external reference tone can be used in order to scale the measured receiver carrier to noise or signal to noise data to an absolute power. The increase in measured received power on the wireless device's receiver correlates to the impact the host device will have on the embedded wireless device's receiver sensitivity performance, providing a faster approach with less external equipment than current approaches that use external equipment to simulate the wireless device's forward link signal.

Receiver diversity in a wireless device is controlled in response to operating conditions, transmission requirements, and control settings. The control of diversity reduces power consumption by enabling receive diversity on given conditions. Operating conditions, transmission requirements, and control settings are used separately or used in conjunction to determine whether benefits of multi-antenna receive diversity, such as higher link capacity, higher data throughput, lower transmit power, and lower error rate, warrant the higher power cost of the diversity.

Radiated performance of a wireless device

A mobile device comprises a receiver unit that has at least two receivers to implement multi-antenna receive diversity. A control unit estimates, at the mobile, an amount of utilization by a traffic channel of the mobile of total transmission power capacity at a base station. The mobile applies multi-antenna receive diversity in the mobile device based on the power capacity utilization. The mobile estimates an amount of power a network is transmitting to the mobile relative to a pilot reference. Other indicators are based on quality of the traffic channel between the mobile and the network, capacity limiting resources, a number of sectors in a soft hand-off in a wireless system, etc. The indicators are used to control application of multi-antenna receive diversity in a mobile device.
