Described herein are systems and/or methods for forming an ophthalmic lens. An example method may comprise a step of determining a power profile based on a power profile function defined by a base optical power, an amount of spherical aberration at a radial distance from a geometric center of the lens, and a bump function. The example method may comprise a step of adjusting the power profile based at least on minimizing a shape metric of a through-focus curve.

A computer, a high resolution monitor and a patient interface is utilized to implement a visual contrast sensitivity function measurement test. More specifically, a computerized video system is configured to implement a tilted-grating forced choice contrast sensitivity function test. The invention utilizes known measurement methods for the visual contrast sensitivity function and automates their use by computerizing the system and couples it with a patient-interactive user interface in order to produce an accurate quantitative result.

An apparatus and method to improve the prescribing of customized ophthalmic corrections which contain higher order aberration. The apparatus enables the subjective measurement of higher order aberrations such as spherical aberration which can be used as part of the prescription for customized ophthalmic corrections.

An in vivo method of characterizing dynamic tear films has been developed using a near infrared phase-shifting interferometer. This interferometer continuously measures light reflected from the tear film, allowing precision analysis of the dynamic surface topography. Movies showing the tear film behavior may be generated along with quantitative metrics describing the tear film surface as it changes in time.

Reverse raytracing is utilized to remove aberrations induced into the wavefront as it is imaged from immediately behind the lens to the detector of the interferometer.
