A system and method for calibrating and controlling an active dampening system for a chassis of a vehicle having an engine involve operating the engine in a cylinder deactivation mode and, during the cylinder deactivation mode, (i) receiving, from a set of sensors, measured vibrations on first and second frame rails of the chassis, (ii) generating control signals for a set of actuators based on the measured vibration of the first and second frame rails, each actuator being configured to generate a vibrational force in at least one direction, and (iii) outputting, to the set of actuators, the control signals, wherein receipt of the control signals cause the set of actuators to generate vibrational forces that dampen the vibration of the first and second frame rails, respectively, to decrease noise/vibration/harshness (NVH).

Active vehicle chassis dampening systems and methods

A vehicle includes an engine, a pair of front axle shafts, and a transfer case having a clutch assembly configured to selectively move between a closed position to enable the engine to drive the front axle shafts, and an open position to disable the engine from driving the front axle shafts. A control system is configured to momentarily open the clutch assembly when the vehicle is coming to a stop or is stopped in order to relieve residual torque build-up in the front axle shafts to thereby reduce idle vibration transmission between the engine and a body of the vehicle.

Transfer case control to relieve front driveline residual torque

A torque converter for a vehicle includes an impeller, a turbine, a stator positioned between the impeller and the turbine, a one-way clutch coupled to the stator and configured to couple to a fixed member, and a controllable clutch assembly. The controllable clutch assembly is configured to selectively engage the stator and the turbine such that the stator is able to rotate with the turbine to facilitate preventing the stator from reacting against the one-way clutch and applying a load to the fixed member and thereby facilitating reducing an output of the torque converter and reducing engine vibration during idle, and disengage the stator from the turbine to enable relative rotation between the stator and turbine.

A control arm assembly for a suspension system of a vehicle includes a base member configured to couple to a structural member of the vehicle via at least one isolator, and a control arm pivotally coupled to the base member and configured to couple to a steering knuckle of the vehicle, such that kinematics acting on the control arm are decoupled from an isolation provided by the coupling between the base member and the vehicle structural member.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods to detect and reduce any high driveline torsional levels, such as due to the cylinder deactivation in variable displacement system engines or aggressive lock-up strategies for fuel efficiency, in automobile transmissions. The present disclosure utilizes a controller in an automobile to operate a computationally thrifty method for quickly detecting noise and vibration disturbances in the transmission. This quick detection enables fuel economic calibrations that aggressively reduce the disturbances by controlling slip in a launch device of the transmission. As problem disturbances arise, they are detected before occupants notice objectionable behavior. Once detected, the disturbances are reduced, such as by increasing launch device slip, which effectively intercepts the objectionable disturbances before they are transferred through the entire drivetrain. The present disclosure can also apply to launch devices in Dual Clutch Transmissions and Electronically-controlled Manual Transmissions.
