A child-resistant dispensing closure for a container may include one or the other or both of a dispensing cover non-removably securable to a container, or an outer cover non-removably securable and rotatable with respect to the inner cover and cooperable with the dispensing cover to render the closure child-resistant. According to another embodiment, an outer cover may include a flange to aid users in pushing and turning the outer cover with their fingers.

A single-sided shuttle-type blow molding apparatus having an extruder for substantially continuously extruding a thermoplastic material in tubular form at a moldable temperature downwardly along a vertical axis. The apparatus includes a mold having a set of mold parts adapted to open and close relative to each other to define, when closed, a mold cavity. A shuttle having the mold mounted thereon is arranged to move along a closed path from a first position wherein the mold engages, when open, a finite length of the thermoplastic tube, to a second position away from the first position. The apparatus further includes a blow head adapted to blow the finite length of the thermoplastic tube to form the container as the mold moves from the first position to the second position of the closed path. The apparatus includes no more than one mold. A method is also described.

An apparatus for reforming an annular end sealing surface of a molded plastic container includes a head having an annular contact surface and a drive for bringing the annular contact surface into contact with the annular end sealing surface of the container. The head and the container do not rotate relative to each other during this contact reforming operation. Heat is applied through the contact surface to the end sealing surface while the surfaces are in contact to raise the temperature at the end sealing surface to at least the softening temperature of the plastic material, so that the end sealing surface is softened and reformed by heat and contact with the contact surface.

Apparatus and method for reforming the neck finish end surface of a blow molded plastic container

A one-piece integrally molded container includes a finish having a deck and a pair of outlet openings surrounded by associated annular walls. A peripheral ring extends upwardly from the deck, and has a radial lip that helps retain the container in the mold tooling during the forming operation. The finish has a radial bead over which a bead on the inside diameter of a closure skirt snaps to secure the closure to the container. Annular walls on the closure surrounding the closure dispensing openings are received in plug sealing engagement within the annular walls surrounding the outlet openings on the container finish deck.

Dual-chamber container and closure package

Shuttle blow molding apparatus having an extruder for substantially continuously extruding a thermoplastic material in tubular form at a moldable temperature downwardly along a vertical axis. A first finite length of the thermoplastic material is grasped by a first mold set, which then moves outwardly and downwardly with respect to the extruder to provide clearance for a second mold set to move to a position to grasp a second finite length of the extruded thermoplastic tube. The first mold set is then moved horizontally away to permit the finite length of thermoplastic tube therein to be blown into a hollow article, and thereafter removed from the first mold set at a second position of the first mold set. The second mold set, after grasping a second finite length of the extruded thermoplastic tube, moves outwardly in a direction opposed to the direction of movement of the first mold set away from the extruder and downwardly to permit the extruded length of thermoplastic tube therein to be blown into a hollow article, and thereafter removed from the second mold set at the position where the hollow articles are removed from the first mold set.

Shuttle-type blow molding method and apparatus

A dual-outlet dispensing closure for dispensing fluid products from a dual-chamber container that includes a base for securement to a container and having laterally adjacent outlet openings for alignment with outlets in the container. A turret is mounted on the base for conjoint pivotal movement of dual outlet passages between a closed position in which the turret blocks the outlet openings in the base, and an open position in which the turret passages are aligned with and open to the outlet openings to dispense product. The passages are preferably provided in the form of elongated barrels that are angulated with respect to each other so that the fluid products dispensed from the respective barrels meet and mix with each other at a position spaced from the closure. The base preferably includes vent openings for venting the container chambers to atmosphere as products are dispensed from the container.

Dual-outlet dispensing closure

A one-piece self-draining container and method and apparatus for forming same. The container includes a body and a finish wall extending upwardly from a body opening. The finish wall surrounds a dispensing spout which extends above the top of the wall. A frustoconical web joins the finish wall and the dispensing spout to form a drain apron gutter channel having a relatively steeply inclined cone angle. A drain opening is defined adjacent the channel for draining fluid from the channel into the container body. A removable cap having a depending skirt defining a thread which mates with an internal thread on the container wall to thereby threadably engage and close the container. The method is performed on the type of extrusion-injection blow molding machine as generally disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 2,804,654 as modified in accordance with the invention to form the web wall in situ with a frustoconical configuration of uniform cross sectional thickness.

Method and apparatus for making a plastic container with drain back spout

Container

A closure for a container-and-closure sealing system embodied in a container and closure package, and method of making the same. The container has an open mouth surrounded by a cylindrical neck wall having internal threads and an open upper edge. The closure is a cap/dispensing cup type and has a skirt with external threads adapted for threaded receipt within the container neck wall. A circumferentially continuous flange projects outwardly from the skirt and has a conical portion adapted for cam engaging, trapping and sealing with the open upper edge of the neck wall as the closure is threaded into this wall. The closure skirt also has a circumferentially continuous plug-type sealing surface that extends radially outwardly from the skirt between the trapping flange and closure external threads adapted for interference sealing engagement with the neck wall as the closure is threaded thereinto. The materials of the closure and container may differ in hardness relative to another so that either the plug seal rib of the juxtaposed neck wall surface deforms under closure/container engaging forces to thereby enhance the sealing capability and life. The flange has a conical skirt wall portion integrally dependent from a flange radial wall portion that is adapted to sealing cam wedge embrace the neck open upper edge and creates increasing squeeze force as the closure is threaded into the neck wall. A concentrically intermediate annular seal is also provided in the form of V-rib or liner material interposed in assembly between the container upper edge and the flange radial wall portion. The container neck wall may have a circumferentially continuous internal groove disposed between the neck internal threads and open upper edge for receiving the closure plug seal rub by interference snap fit when the closure is threaded into the wall and reaches closed position thereon to thereby enhance removal torque capability.
