The present invention relates to a method for analyzing a decoded digital signal stream. The method comprises decoding an encoded digital signal stream to obtain a decoded digital stream and terminating the decoding operation in an N dimension, wherein N is an integer greater than one. The method further comprises calculating one or more syndromes in a dimension not comprising the N dimension of the decoded digital signal stream. At least one invalid syndrome is then detected from the one or more calculated syndromes. In one embodiment, an error is reported in the decoded digital stream based upon detecting at least one invalid syndrome.

Method for error detection in a decoded digital signal stream

A system and method for processing calls in a communication system utilizing distributed signaling. When a call signal having distributed identification data is received on a communication channel, the call information (such a voice, data, video, etc.) is initially passed through the system without verification until sufficient identification data (such as the color code) has been obtained to determine whether the source of the call is valid. Once sufficient identification data has been obtained, the source is verified. If the source is valid, the call information continues to be passed through the system. However, if source is invalid, the call information is blocked for the present call as well as for subsequent calls on the same communication channel, and passing of the call information through the system does not resume until a received call is subsequently assessed to be valid.

System and method for minimizing undesired audio in a communication system utilizing distributed signaling

A system and method for dynamically altering detection criterion value at a receiving device based on the portion of a call signal being received. A receiving device is configured to extract a first call signal portion from the call signal, and compare the first call signal portion to a plurality of call information portions, wherein each call information portion has a detection criterion value. If the first call signal portion matches one of the call information portions, the receiving device adjusts the detection criterion value for at least one of the plurality of call information portions, extracts a second call signal portion from the call signal, and compares the second call signal portion to the plurality of call information portions.

In one embodiment, the quality metric is derived from state information obtained from selected columns in the trellis array. The state information may include target states defining correct and/or incorrect transitions in the selected columns. Method for determining quality of trellis decoded block data

A first communication device (e.g., 103), which includes an unsuccessful transmission attempt counter (203) and an information transmitter (207), provides information to a second communication device (e.g., 105) in the following manner. The first communication device transmits information to the second communication device. The first communication device then determines whether the second communication device received at least a portion of the information. When the second communication device has not received at least the portion of the information to produce an unsuccessful transmission attempt, the first communication device determines whether a quantity of unsuccessful transmission attempts is less than a first threshold value. When the quantity of unsuccessful transmission attempts is less than the first threshold value, the first communication device retransmits the information to the second communication device. Otherwise, the first communication device queues or terminates transmission of the information.

Method and apparatus for providing information between communication

A method voting multiple messages begins with a communication unit (111) transmitting (301) a message. At each of a plurality of sites, the message is received (303) and decoded (305) such that a minimized metric is computed and decoded message is extracted from the message. The minimized metric is adjusted (307), producing an adjusted metric. Each of the plurality of sites transports (309) its decoded message and its adjusted metric to a comparator. The comparator receives (311) selecting the decoded message and the adjusted metric from each of the plurality of sites, compares (313) selecting the adjusted metric from each of the plurality of sites and finds an optimal adjusted metric. The decoded message associated with the optimal adjusted metric is then selected (315).
