An annular bus ring assembly for connecting main rotor windings of a generator to the exciter diodes includes a plurality of annular bus rings with tabs bent over forming plurality of pads mounted on either side of a dielectric hub. The pads of annular bus rings clocked at an angle to each other to generate a pattern of plurality of pads on a equal angle spacing on a diameter to connect to the diodes by wire rope leads and a pattern of two connection at 90&#xb0; spacing to connect to main generator leads.

A high speed generator cooling system directs a cooling oil spray through a chamber inside a coil support wedge assembly, which may be disposed adjacent to the generator coils. Heat from the generator coils may be conducted through the walls of the coil support wedge assembly and into the chamber where it is removed by the cooling oil spray passing through the chamber. The cooling oil passes through a generator rotor shaft and into a cooling passage in least one of the rotor laminations.

A relatively compact, lightweight outflow valve assembly includes suitable redundancy features that allow the valve assembly to meet regulatory requirements for certain postulated single point failures. The valve assembly includes a valve body that is constructed at least partially of a non-metallic material and has an outer surface and an inner surface that defines a flow passage having at least two flow ports. A sleeve is disposed within the valve body flow passage that is constructed at least partially of a metallic material. The sleeve has a flow passage formed therein that is in fluid communication with the valve body flow passage flow ports. A valve element is disposed within the sleeve flow passage and is moveable between at least an open position and a closed position. A plurality of brackets is mounted on the valve body outer surface and is coupled to the sleeve. When the valve assembly is installed in an aircraft, the plurality of brackets further couples the sleeve to the aircraft fuselage.

An outflow valve includes a valve closure mechanism that automatically closes the outflow valve in the unlikely event the outflow valve actuator becomes inoperable. The valve closure mechanism includes a pulley, a load plate, a cable, and a spring. The pulley is coupled to a valve element is the outflow valve and is configured to eccentrically rotate therewith. The cable has a first end coupled to the pulley, and a second end coupled to the load plate. The spring is disposed between the valve and the load plate and surrounds a portion of the cable. The spring is configured to supply a bias force, via the load plate and the cable, to the pulley that biases the valve element toward the closed position.

An improved apparatus and method of having a pair of end caps on a rotor assembly of a multi-pole high-speed generator is provided for use with a turbine engine. The rotor assembly provides improved balancing and/or cooling during generator operation. The rotor assembly includes a plurality of poles and at least one support wedge positioned between each of the poles. The rotor assembly is mounted on a shaft. An annular flange of the end caps restrains the support wedges in the rotor assembly for improved balancing and maintaining concentricity. The end caps may also include a manifold for circulating a cooling medium through the shaft to and from the support wedges to cool the generator.

A wedge-shaped member to restrain coil windings of a generator rotor from moving under centrifugal force. The wedge-shaped, substantially hollow member including a first plate, a second plate positioned opposite the first plate and positioned at an angle relative to the first plate, and one or more reinforcing members coupled between the first plate and the second plate. The wedge-shaped member is configured to fit between the core poles of a generator. A plurality of holes in the first and/or second plates permit a bonding material to adhere to adjacent coil windings and spread through the holes.

Methods and apparatus for retaining a butterfly plate within a valve housing after complete drive shaft failure. More particularly, the present invention is directed to the use of a pin extending between the butterfly plate and the valve housing where an end of the pin extends into a semi-circular channel centered on the center axis of the drive shaft. In preferred embodiments, the pin is immovably fixed to the valve housing, and extends into a channel on the butterfly plate assembly where the channel is sized, dimensioned, and positioned such that it corresponds to the path of an end of the pin as the plate rotates on the drive shaft.

A terminal block assembly for electrical generators, such as high speed AC generators used in aircraft, is made from components that are readily assembled and disassembled for ease of installation, maintenance, and repair. The terminal block assembly is formed of a terminal block and one or more terminal assemblies. The terminal block has a main body with at least an upper surface and a lower surface. A first cavity is formed in the main body lower surface, and an opening that extends through the main body between the upper surface and the first cavity. A threaded fastener is inserted into the opening and into the first cavity, and a bolt is coupled to the fastener to secure the fastener in the opening. Each terminal assembly is coupled to the terminal block and includes one or more electrically conductive terminal plates, feed-throughs, and slugs for connection to stator output leads, that are electrically and mechanically coupled together using electrically conductive fasteners.

A stator for a rotating electrical machine, such as a motor or generator, is wound with stator coils having non-slot-insertion segments that include a twisted segment that is twisted a predetermined number of degrees. The twisted segment is additionally bent at a predetermined angle relative to a reference plane. This combination of twist and bend reduces the likelihood of damage to the insulating coating on the stator coils, and increases the clearance between adjacent coils as compared to other stator designs. As a result, electrical interference between adjacent coils is minimized.

A lubricating and cooling system for a high speed generator that directs a lubricating and cooling medium through the generator housing. The lubricating and cooling medium may be supplied to the generator on either end of the housing. A portion of the medium is supplied to the generator bearings. The remaining portion then flows through the rotor shaft, through the rotor, back to the shaft, where a portion may be sprayed onto the rectifier assemblies, then passed through the stator, and out of the generator.

A second diode circuit, which also includes an anode and a cathode, has its cathode electrically coupled to a second of the plurality of conductive circuit runs. A conductive element electrically couples together the cathode of the first diode circuit and the anode of the second diode circuit.
