Gutbier Marlene is a new cultivar distinguished by bright brick red bracts, self branching and compact growth habit. The new plant is tolerant to temperatures down to 10.degree. C. showing intensified bract color under cool conditions. Bract retention is long, typically lasting for several months.

Poinsettia plant Gutbier Marlene

Described is a new Poinsettia cultivar, `21-85`, that is a vigorous, self-branching Poinsettia of medium height with large white flower bracts. `21-85` has short bract petioles which cause the bracts to be tightly clustered around the cyathia. `21-85` can be flowered in a relatively cool greenhouse, making it economical to grow commercially. `21-85` is a sport of the cultivar described in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,492.

Poinsettia plant `21-85`

A new red poinsettia cultivar particularly distinguished by its earlier blooming and at a lower temperature than the plant that it most nearly resembles, namely Poinsettia V-14, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,384; and by its having the unique growth and habit characteristics of the Gutbier's Family of poinsettia plants, including easy multiple branching, full bracts, and small cyathia clusters.

Poinsettia named Angelika

A new variety of poinsettia plant distinguished by the unique characteristic of having nearly the overall beauty and red color of Eckespoint C-1 Red (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,923) but blooming approximately one to two weeks earlier at about one to two degrees C. lower forcing temperature thereby effecting a considerable saving of fuel. This new plant also has the unique ability to produce a side shoot on its stem for virtually every axial bud thereby adapting this variety for production of multi-stemmed (pinched) plants of superior beauty and quality. The bracts are often as wide as they are long with a remarkable absence of drooping and since the bract petioles are short, the bracts have a full and compact appearance.

Poinsettia V-14

A new cultivar of poinsettia plant distinguished by its shorter than average growth habit and its ability to bloom in 8 to 9 weeks at a night temperature in the range of 14.degree. to 16.degree. C. with a prolific production of medium red bracts which have a unique arched appearance. When grown as a branched or pinched plant, this cultivar produces more branches or shoots than any poinsettia heretofore known; and when grown as a single stem plant, it produces a great number of side shoots which greatly enhances its beauty. In general appearance, this new variety is unique and different in many respects from any poinsettia ever before produced.
