A polyurethane-based binder dispersion is described. The polyurethane based binder dispersion comprises: a polyurethane, which comprises: (A) a polyisocyanate; (B) a first polyol having a chain with two hydroxyl functional groups at one end of the chain and no hydroxyl groups at an opposed end of the chain; (C) a second polyol having a chain with two hydroxyl functional groups at both ends of the chain; (D) a carboxylic acid functional group with two hydroxyl functional groups; and (E) a compound shown in formula (1): m(M+) n(X)&#x2014;R&#x2014;Y&#x2014; (1), wherein m is 0 or 1, M is a metal, n is 2 to 10, X is an amino group, R is a C1 to C18 alkyl group, a C6 to C30 aromatic compound or a C4 to C20 aliphatic cyclic compound, and Y is SO3- or SO3H, with the proviso that when m is 0, Y is SO3H and when m is 1, Y is SO3-.

Polyurethane-based binder dispersion

Herein is disclosed a method of transfer inkjet printing comprising jetting a radiation curable inkjet ink onto an intermediate transfer member of an inkjet printer to form an image; irradiating the radiation curable inkjet ink on the intermediate transfer member to form an at least partially cured image; and transferring the at least partially cured image to a substrate to form a printed substrate. Herein is also disclosed a transfer inkjet printing apparatus adapted, in use, to perform the method.

Inkjet printing method and apparatus

The present disclosure is drawn to polyurethane dispersions. In one example, a polyurethane dispersion can include a polyurethane with a polymeric ionic side chain and a polymeric non-ionic side chain. The polyurethane can be formed of polymerized monomers including a diisocyanate, a first polymeric diol, and a second polymeric diol. The first polymeric diol can include a first polymer chain replacing a hydrogen atom of a thiol group of a 1-thioglycerol molecule. The first polymer chain can include a block of a polymerized ionic group-containing vinyl monomer. The second polymeric diol can include a second polymer chain replacing a hydrogen atom of a thiol group of a 1-thioglycerol molecule. The second polymer chain can include a block of a polymerized non-ionic vinyl monomer, and the second polymer chain can be devoid of ionic groups.

Polyurethane dispersions

Printable compositions comprising a liquid carrier; and a radiation curable polyurethane dispersed in the liquid carrier are described, as well as methods of preparing the printable compositions and methods of printing using the printable compositions.

Printable compositions

An inkjet ink composition comprising a polyurethane-based binder dispersion is described. The polyurethane-based binder dispersion comprises: a polyurethane, which comprises: (A) a polyisocyanate; (B) a first polyol having a chain with two hydroxyl functional groups at one end of the chain and no hydroxyl groups at an opposed end of the chain; (C) a second polyol having a chain with two hydroxyl functional groups at both ends of the chain; (D) a carboxylic acid functional group with two hydroxyl functional groups; and (E) a compound shown in formula (1): m(M+)n(X)&#x2014;R&#x2014;Y&#x2014; (1), wherein m is 0 or 1, M is a metal, n is 2 to 10, X is an amino group, R is a C1 to C18 alkyl group, a C6 to C30 aromatic compound or a C4 to C20 aliphatic cyclic compound, and Y is SO3- or SO3H, with the proviso that when m is 0, Y is SO3H and when m is 1, Y is SO3-.

The present disclosure is drawn to an acrylamide-containing photo active co-solvent, including a bis-tris propane co-solvent or a polypropylene oxide amine co-solvent modified with an acryloyl group to form the acrylamide-containing photo active co-solvent.

In one example, a process to solidify a water-based printing fluid printed on a substrate includes flushing nonvolatile solvent in the printing fluid into the substrate with the water in the printing fluid.

Solidifying water-based printing fluid

The present disclosure is drawn to reactive polyurethane dispersions. In one example, a reactive polyurethane dispersion can include a polymer strand having a polymer backbone that has two ends terminating at a first capping unit and a second capping unit. The polymer backbone can include polymerized monomers including a reactive diol and a diisocyanate. The reactive diol can be an acrylate-containing diol, a methacrylate-containing diol, an acrylamide-containing diol, a methacrylamide-containing diol, or combination thereof. The first capping unit can be an acrylamide-containing monoalcohol or methacrylamide-containing monoalcohol reacted with an isocyanate group of the diisocyanate. The second capping unit can be an ionic stabilizing group.

Reactive polyurethane dispersions

The present disclosure is drawn to a reactive polyurethane dispersion including a polymer strand having a polymer backbone that has two ends terminating at a first capping unit and a second capping unit. The polymer backbone can include polymerized monomers including a reactive diol and a blend of two or more diisocyanates. The reactive diol can be an acrylate-containing diol, a methacrylate-containing diol, or combination thereof. The first capping unit can be an acrylate-containing monoalcohol or methacrylate-containing monoalcohol reacted with an isocyanate group of the diisocyanates. The second capping unit can be an ionic stabilizing group. The polymer backbone can be devoid of ionic stabilizing groups.

The present disclosure is drawn to a reactive polyurethane dispersion including a polymer strand having a polymer backbone that has two ends terminating at a first capping unit and a second capping unit. The polymer backbone can include polymerized monomers including a reactive diol and a diisocyanate. The reactive diol can be an acrylate-containing diol, a methacrylate-containing diol, an allyl-containing diol, or combination thereof. The first capping unit can be an allyl-containing monoalcohol reacted with an isocyanate group of the diisocyanate. The second capping unit can be an ionic stabilizing group.

The present disclosure refers to an inkjet ink set including a black ink with a black pigment, a yellow ink with a yellow pigment, a cyan ink with a cyan pigment and a magenta ink with a magenta pigment, wherein at least one of the ink further contains a polyurethane binder; non-ionic surfactants; humectant solvent; non-volatile glycol ether co-solvent; a polyethylene wax emulsion and a balance of water. The inkjet ink set can also includes an orange ink, a green ink and/or a violet ink. The present disclosure refers also to a system for printing the ink set described herein.

Inkjet ink set

The present disclosure relates to an inkjet printing process that comprises inkjet printing an inkjet ink composition onto a substrate to form a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water, wherein the amount of curable polyurethane dispersed in the inkjet ink composition is 0.1 to 30 weight %. A radiation-curable overcoat composition is inkjet printed over the printed inkjet ink layer as an overcoat layer. The overcoat composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water, wherein the amount of curable polyurethane dispersed in the overcoat composition is 0.1 to 30 weight %. The printed inkjet ink layer is cured by exposing both the printed inkjet ink layer and the overcoat layer on the substrate to radiation.

Inkjet printing

The present disclosure relates to an inkjet composition comprising a curable polyurethane dispersion and an aqueous carrier. The curable polyurethane dispersion comprises at least one of a) a polyurethane polymer comprising a first terminal group selected from a styrene-containing group, an allyl-containing group and an acrylamide-containing group, and a polyurethane polymer comprising a second terminal group comprising an ionic group; and/or a polyurethane polymer comprising a first terminal group at one end and a second terminal group at the opposite end, wherein the first terminal group is selected from a styrene-containing group, an allyl-containing group and an acrylamide-containing group, and the second terminal group comprises an ionic group; b) a polyurethane polymer comprising a terminal group selected from at least one of stabilising groups (A) and (B); and c) a polyurethane polymer comprising a polyurethane chain formed by the polymerisation of (i) a blend of at least two different diisocyanates and (ii) a reactive diol.

Inkjet compositions

The present disclosure relates to an inkjet printing process that comprises applying a radiation-curable primer composition onto a substrate to form a primer layer. The primer composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. An inkjet ink composition is inkjet printed onto the primer layer as a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. The curable polyurethane is dispersed in the inkjet ink composition in an amount of composition is 0.1 to 30 weight % of the inkjet ink composition. The printed inkjet ink layer is cured on the substrate by exposing both the primer layer and printed inkjet ink layer on the substrate to radiation.

An inkjet ink set containing a pre-treatment fixing fluid including calcium-containing crashing agents; at least a co-solvent; one or more surfactants and a balance of water; and, at least, a liquid ink. The liquid ink includes a pigment dispersion, a surfactant, a polyurethane binder, a co-solvent and a balance of water. Also disclosed are and inkjet printing system containing such ink set and the method for printing in such inkjet printing system.
