A splicing machine having an alignment mechanism is provided for aligning an end edge of a web of paperboard in preparation for splicing two webs of paperboard. An image display device such as a mirror or display screen allow an operator to view images of the end edge of the web and the alignment position to facilitate aligning the end edge at the alignment position. The alignment position is typically marked by an alignment marker produced by light, such as a laser beam.

Method and apparatus for splicing a paper roll

A method and apparatus for verifying stack size are disclosed wherein measured length and width dimensions of a stack of paperboard sheets are compared with length and width values of a label associated with the stack. The dimensions are typically measured as the stack travels along a conveyor. A no-match indicator is produced if there is not a match between the dimensions and values, and may include an alarm or a display on a video screen. The stack may be diverted to allow application of a correct label whereby the stack will be shipped to the correct customer.

Method and apparatus for verifying stack size

A method and system for automatically changing the flute size in a corrugation process without stopping or slowing the overall corrugation process utilizing a first single-faced web having a first flute size and a second single-faced web having a second flute size. The first single-faced web is conveyed along a track into a double backer forming a first corrugated material. When a flute change sequence is initiated, the single-faced web is cut using a pressurized stream of water such that the single-faced web disengages with the double backer. Generally simultaneously, the second single-faced web is introduced into the double backer using an air jet, wherein a second corrugated material is formed.

Apparatus for producing corrugated material

A corrugator includes a separation sensor for sensing separation of a corrugated medium and liner of a corrugated paperboard. Sensing the separation, also known as blowout or fluff out, allows the corrugator to be controlled to prevent problems which arise when corrugated paperboard having such a separation continues downstream along the corrugator. Typically, the corrugator is operated to cease downstream movement of the paperboard while a faulty segment which includes the separation is removed and the problem causing the separation is fixed, thereby providing for subsequent production of corrugated paperboard which is properly glued.

Method and apparatus for determining blowout in a corrugation

A paperboard handling machine includes an alignment mechanism for aligning rolls of paperboard supported by the machine whereby the rolls are aligned with one another.
