Systems and methods are described that facilitate counterfeit deterrence in a printer or the like. A final image is scanned from a photoreceptor belt before or after transfer of the image to a print medium or from the print medium itself prior to output, and the scanned image data is assessed using a set of stored criteria to detect counterfeit signatures in the scanned image. Upon a determination that the scanned image includes a restricted image, and therefore contains one or more counterfeit image, the printer is shut down, electronically locked until serviced, and/or caused to damage or mark the printed counterfeit image(s).

According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided a printing system that includes first and second marking devices for applying images to print media. A first fusing module associated with the first marking device for applying a primary fusing treatment to the images applied to print media by the first marking device. A second fusing module which receives printed media from the first and second marking devices, the secondary fusing module including a fusing device that applies a fusing treatment to the images applied to the printed media. A printing controller having a scheduler for processing print jobs in the first and second marking devices based on fusing requirements of the print media.

By providing the printing fault cover sheets and continuing the printing operation, the method can be set to stop the printing only for printing parameters that physically prevent printing, and not for printing parameters that only affect printing quality, thereby maintaining high productivity while still allowing the user to easily locate sheets that potentially have printing faults.

The method includes marking a first group of images on a corresponding first group of sheets, marking a test pattern on a first test pattern sheet, marking a second group of images on a corresponding second group of sheets, delivering the first test pattern sheet to a sample tray, and passing the first and second groups of sheets to a finishing module. In a varient, the first test pattern sheet follows the first group of sheets in a sequence, the second group of sheets follows the first test pattern sheet in a sequence, and the second group of images follows the first group of images in a sequence.
